Jose Valverde question

I think the nickname "Papa Grande" fits well for Jose. What do you think? Imagine buying a Papa Grande burrito at the game.

It can translate as "Big Potato" unless the accent is properly applied...I think it DOES sound like food, and that's not exactly the way I think of a very young fastball closer. Sounds more like a big fat old closer late in his career.

Wonder if anybody has asked him if he likes it or not?

Grande--big

I think what is really should be is Big Papa, but Papa Grande sounds better.

Actually I heard one of the Phoenix area sport talk hosts calling him this, and it does seem to fit

They showed a shot on the Jumbotron of Jose coughing out his gum before one of his Houston appearances - woman two seats down said, "Geez - looks like Bill The Cat!" At which point several of us came up with the name "El Hairball." - just being silly, of course.
