The rules changed so June 1st doesn't quite mean anything anymore

Which is why Clancy/Milford will have NO problem being picked up, if they are cut by us. It truly will be a stupid move of epic proportions.

I agree, we want to add depth so we over pay some guys to come in here to "compete". But now we have to cut afew depth/starters guys that make equal to less money then the guys we brought in.

Makes NO sense to me at all. Both the guys mentioned are solid players. Are we trying to improve this team or what?

No. You are right. Let's keep Clancy, and M.Brown. We don't need to sign our rookies. Let's let the rookies walk and keep a 3rd string NT, and a backup guard at outrageous prices. :sarcasm:

Honestly, I have no problem letting Ben Patrick and his hamstring not get paid or come to camp.

Clancy's still running with the 1st team at NT. Why don't we let Watson or Branch take his job instead of treating it as a fait accompli?

And don't worry about depth at OG. After all, they never get injured, and Elton Brown has shown that he has ability at the NFL level.

Ben Patrick is not the problem.

We gotta pay Levi Brown, and Alan Branch. I'd rather pay for Levi Brown and Alan Branch than Milford Brown and Kendrick Clancy.

Actually optimally (sp?) I would like to see all four stay with the club if at all possible.

That being said, one way or another the Cardinals have to create some cap space.

Who else is on the roster that is as expendable as Clancy, and Brown and will clear up as much cap room by restructuring or releasing them ?

Kurt Warner SHOULD be included with this group come to think about it.

And at least we agree on one thing. Al Johnson's salary is ridiculous. I like the signing and the player but the price is outrageous. I hope he becomes an anually pro bowler.

Oliver Ross should take a pay cut. 'Femi could clear nearly as much room as Clancy would.

You're kidding right?

If you want to look at bad contracts, look no further than Warner and Femi. Milford is still our best LG on the roster, and Clancy is still with the 1st team.

There is no way Milford Brown is the best LG on the roster.

He is not better than Wells, or Gandy. IMO at least.

Clancy is a gamer but his 1st team title is from OTA's. Last year he rotated with Dockett, Watson, and Lewis.

Gandy's a Tackle. Our starting offensive tackle. :barf:

Watch for this in training camp: Levi Brown outplays Ross, Ross moves to the other Tackle position, Gandy beats out Wells and moves to LG. Wells is now the backup at any one of the line positions.

Clancy

Since he doesn't have a huge salary, but could contribute to the Cap "increase" by letting him go, why not try to trade him for a future draft choice. I would think that the Bears and Giants might be interested. And maybe others.

We will just have to strongly disagree about this one, and leave it at that. Wells better at LG? Poll this forum, and most will tell you that he is an adequate TACKLE, not Guard.

We aren't that smart.

Gandy already beat Ross out for the LT job in minicamps. That story was reported last week by Somers and Urban. That's why Ross is starting at RT right now. They flip-flopped them until about a week ago.

Oh, without a doubt I am in a small majority on this.

If Grimm and Whiz stay true to what they have been saying (and for the most part they have) then FOR THIS SYSTEM Wells is the man for the job.

Are we the only team to have made cuts after Jun 1st? The team with the 3rd most cap space before free agency started.

Seattle cut Kelly Herndon. They didn't have to prorate the accelerated bonus though. They absorbed all of it this year.

Associating the term "epic" with these two quite ordinary talents is a stupid "thought" of epic proportions. :D

The "epic" part of it still rings true. We could have signed all of our rookies, without cutting these players if we used a traditional bonus structure.

That "ringing" is in your ears.

If the need arises, there will be plenty of opportunity post training camps to pick up another vet backup guard a the vet min. salary or another backup NT.

(looking foward to hearing the complaints about the "healthy" off season balance sheet the Cards have going into free agency next year. No doubt, you'll be the leading voice, right?) ;)

Tisk Tisk. You find me a backup NT that can do the job that Clancy did with a minimum salary, and I will eat crow.

I'm pretty sure I won't be picking feathers out of my teeth.

We had the 3rd most amount of cap space this year. We did make good signings, but bad bonus structure, and cutting unnecessary players.
