I Things seem to be getting alittle better for the Cards through FA so far but the WR's are leaving, MarTay just signed with the Falcons. Plus the recieving core right now is pretty young and inexperienced. Who will be available at WR after the June 1st cuts (Any links to find out??) and is there anyone else out there worth paying for?

Someone was just saying that Mushin Muhommad(sp), and probably M. Robinson from the bears if they can't work a trade for him. *. Crowell is still out there, but has had injuries.

I wouldn't mind signing three one-legged recievers for cheap, and then trying to assemble one good player for the season. I dunno it could work.

Well, based on another thread they said the team would be talking to Frank Sanders and hope to have him back.... I think this is key... he is a solid #2 as long as he is reasonable with his contract demands....... Then all we need is one WR...... maybe a release on June 1st or draft one.... either way I would be satified with the WR core..... Sanders, McCaddley, Gilmore, Kasper..... and the mystery addition.....draft or free agency????

You know.... the more I look at that bunch.... if we could add Antonio Freeman, Marcus Robinson, or Mushin Muhammad to the group.... I would be happy with the group

Sanders WAS a solid #2 about 4 years ago. Hoping for June 1st cuts is pretty scary to me, but I can't do anything but wait.

Here's a list of all available receiver FA's:

http://nfl.kffl.com/teams/free_agents/2003/wr.shtml

Not that many quality players left...

The best option right now is probable to wait until after the draft and then trade next year's no. 2 for Tai Steets.

March 19, 2003 5:35:41 PT The Contra Costa Times reports it appears restricted free agent WR Tai Streets (49ers) may be staying with the San Francisco 49ers. "We're not going to give Tai away. He's a potential starting wideout," 49ers GM Terry Donahue said. "The Jets offered us a third(-round draft pick), and we're not going to do a deal for a third, and nobody's going to give us a second(-round pick)."

This was to be expected. For over a year now, our receiving corps has been as crowded as Grand Central Station - with a talent level pretty much at the B- or better level. At the beginning of last season, I'd profile it pretty much as: A+, B, B, B-, B-, B-, B-, B-. C+ (Soliday)

It should come as no surprise, therefore, that all 6 or 7 guys feel they're ready to start and want some of that extra NFL green.

There were too many guys on the unit and one way or another some of them had to go.

By all means we need to upgrade the unit (so that it profiles something like A, A-, B+, B+, B, B). One or two of last years' B-minuses will probably develop into B's or maybe A's or A-minuses. But we can't be sure, and need to add one or two proven wideouts to the mix.

But I wouldn't climb all over the Cardinals over this. There was a logjam that was due to break.

Thanx for the link. Looking at the list of remaining WR's, I see a few guys on there that are at least of Sanders calliber if not better. Darrell Jackson, Qadry Ismail, Oronde Gadsden, and Antonio Freeman might be an upgrade for at least 1 year. Jackson being someone they could keep around. He's been in Seattle behind a few good WR's and bad QB's. Just a thought

If we do not sign a FA receiver we are almost compelled to sign one perhaps even with our #1 in the draft. That is if there is a WR at #6 who has that value.

Darrell Jackson is a restricted free agent with the middle (or high) tender, so he can only be had for at least a 1st rounder.

If I were Graves, I might go to the Niners and offer a package of picks for Streets. A fourth rounder this year and a second next year.

Unfortunaetly the only reciever I see having value at six would be Rodgers, and MAYBE Johnson.

I do like the idea of trading a pick in NEXT years draft though, when there is a better chance of them being lower picks.
