I think the Cardinals should strongly consider hiring June Jones as their next coach. He has NFL head coaching experience, coordinator experience, playing experience, and is one of the top offensive minds in football. Under his leadership he rebuilt the Hawaii program taking it from a 0-12 team in 1998 to a 9-3 squad the next season. Once again Hawaii will be in a bowl during the holidays. Arizona needs an offensive minded coach to put fans in the stands and to make a move out of the doldrums of the NFL. Jones had an up and down career with Falcons as their head coach, but remember he had to deal with the headcase Jeff George as his quarterback. The Cardinals have not had a solid head coach since Don Coryell and his "Air Coryell" passing games of the seventies. It's time to bring back "Air Coryell" as Arizona moves into a new stadium in the coming years. I think Jones would leave Hawaii for the Cardinals. He also has NFL ties and could put together a solid staff. I think the Cardinals need someone with NFL head coaching experience and Jones might be the best choice for our franchise.

June Jones has never been willing to compromise his run-and-shoot philosophy on offense. That offense is a proven failure in the NFL. It'll never get better than it was with Moon and the Oilers back in the late 80's early 90's, and they couldn't win jack. I love to watch Hawaii play, but his QB's would just be killed in the NFL running that stuff.

I think he would modify the offense somewhat in the pros. He was the interim head coach with the Chargers in 98 and he ran a modified system. Your correct in that probably 75% of the offense would be true blue run and shoot, but since the Cards play in good weather in the desert his offense could put up big numbers. I think it's worth the risk and should be given a chance.

Wow, I never expected to see this thread here and mostly positive replies so far.

Being from Hawaii I watched June Jones play when he was the QB of the then rainbow warriors.

It was fun watching him play in the NFL then move on to coaching.

The problem as I see it is this. He turned down the chance to coach the Chargers in order to take the HC position at Hawaii. A move that stunned both SD and Hawaii.

He just signed a new contract before this season started and is a standup guy with integrity not seen these days. By that I mean turning down a HC job in the NFL to go back to his roots and coach a WAC team that needed a lot of help. That's a lot of negatives he was willing to over look to give back to his alma matter and Hawii loves the man. And he brings an NFL style to this team that makes it easy for them to move on to greener pastures.

Having said that I would love for him to take an offer from the Cards and he can bring in the big damn Samoan dudes! A

Hawaii beat Alabama today. There was an article in the Honolulu Star Bulletin about how Alabama arrived with a private jet and three busses equipted with internet connections and TV's. And they have only 4 wins this season but should have beat Oklahoma.

Please! Don't bring the Chuck & Duck to the Cardinals.

June Jones was a protegee of Mouse Davis (who supposedly invented the Run & Shoot offense).

Others who used this offense were Jerry Glanville and Kevin Gilbride.

The problem with it is that it is "all pass and no run." Chuck & Duck teams notoriously have problems in the red zone.

With respect - the "run and shoot" is simply the basic offense in the CFL... and that's where Mouse Davis picked it up... and where June Jones learned it, as a player and coach.

I agree...

other than the basic skills of the game, the CFL brand an approach is completely different from the NFL. The wider - longer field; 12 verses 11 players; 1-yard between the O and D lines - and three vs four downs, quite naturally lends itself to a passing game.

Yeah, my sister sent me a t shirt with him on the front. Those Hawaiians and Samoans are bad azz dudes. I mean huge guys with a mean streak. At least the ones from Hawaii. The guys that grew up in California (pronounciation has changed with the change in Gobanah).

Hawaii can't keep the good ones in state. They used to all take off for BYU but now they play all over including AZ. But they are perfect for football. They love to hit.

Man, for a while there I was back in high school where I kept repeating over and over "don't look him in the eyes"
