Jurecki: Cards will play in Hall Of Fame Game

Mike Jurecki

I’m hearing the Cardinals have been asked to play in the NFL Hall of Fame game, which is slated for Sunday August 5th in Canton, Ohio. That would give Arizona five preseason games and training camp would start alot earlier. Currently teams normally report 15 days before their first preseason game, as I’m told a decision hasn’t been made yet.
The upside would be the quarterbacks need as much live action as they can get!

Too bad this couldn't coincide with Aeneas Williams' election to the HOF...

Don't want no piece of the Hall of Fame game:

2010: DAL (4th, 6-10) v. CIN (4th, 4-12)
2009: BUF (4th, 6-10) v. TEN (3rd, 8-8)
2008: IND (2nd, 12-4) v. WAS (4th, 8-8)
2007: NO (3rd, 7-9) v. PIT (1st, 10-6)
2006: OAK (4th, 2-14) v. PHI (1st, 10-6)
2005: IND (1st, 14-2) v. ATL (3rd, 8-8)

The early-season exposure isn't worth the extra wear and tear on players' bodies, the extra travel, and the extra chance of injury.

The NFL preseason is utterly worthless. The only thing the Hall of Fame game would do for the Cardinals is make the owners a few million and knock a few players out for extended periods of time.

We do if we sign Peyton Manning. :D

Please don't bring up Cardinal history. Since 1953 every Cardinal Head Coach has had at least 9 losses hung on his team in one season. :(

Interim coaches take the record of the guy they replaced. :p

They also played in the first ever HOF game in 1962. Tied the Giants 21-21.

All three of the Cards' appearances in the Hall of Fame game were from their days in St. Louis. In fact, they have gone the longest of any NFC team since their last appearance in the game.

The AFC team who has gone the longest since playing in the game is the New York Jets. Considering that Curtis Martin is being inducted this year, the Jets would make a favorable opponent for the Cards in the game. They do play each other this year in the regular season, but I doubt if that's much of a factor in scheduling the HOF game.

I'd like it. I'm in Ohio so it would be a nice trip for me.
I like seeing all those rookies and bubble players giving it their all.

Hey Jeff---I think I will be on LBI that weekend---wanna catch the game together---refreshments on me!
Not a definite (Dr/Mrs. G keeps me on short tether) but a decent possibility. Let's see how things go between now and then.
