The one thing missing from the pre 6/1 cut is that he'll save $14mill in 2019 being off the books. Unless the Cards are looking to land an expensive FA - which I doubt - I don't see why they'd cut him post 6/1. Take the 2018 hit and free up as much space for 2019.

Just finished up DMing him regarding Mathieu at this current price. Seems pretty sure of himself that unless that number drops, Mathieu will be gone.

I love TM but honestly if he won't take a cut he SHOULD go. He's vastly overpaid right now, he's not the same player and there's no guarantee he will be again.

It's all about the dead money cap hit the cards would have to absorb this year 9.3 million. If he is a post 6/1 you can push about 6 mil of it to the next year. So the truth of it is you could save the 14 mil but only spend about 5 to replace him, or put towards another position.

Right, but I was saying he's most likely to be a pre 6/1 cut. If he's pre 6/1, the money (guaranteed, bonus, prorated) is accelerated to all count towards 2018. Since he'd be off the books, there'd be $14mill added to 2019's cap space since the contract would be terminated. He has no guaranteed money left on his contract.

Cut him pre or post 6/1 with this calculator - https://overthecap.com/calculator/arizona-cardinals

probably not. Teams are allowed to release a guy early and designate him as a post june 1st release.
Yeah, but they have to carry his contract until June 1 like he’s still on the roster. The purpose of these roster bonuses is to force teams to make an early decision. The Cards wait, Mathieu gets the bonus and guaranteed seasons.

The numbers $$ are extraordinary. They don't play the whole year either. I understand that they deserve their fair share. But most teams have maybe 7-8 srarters making those $$, and the other 46 roster players fighting for the rest.

Be careful what you wish for when signing FA's. You have to add one now and then. But if they keep or extend Badger that's almost like a signing.

C. Jones was the big signing last year. So far so good there. But he's going to need to stay on the field and produce.

D. Johnson is also next up to extend.

A team wanting a DB with almost zero cover skills, but decent blitzing ability, will take HB off our hands I'm guessing.

I think another reason he has problems removed from his injuries is that he's an instinctive player, meaning you have to give him free range to roam and Bettcher (not wrongly) gave him more responsibilities which he would not remain focus while salivating on the action at the line of scrimmage

Has something to do with jurecky being always wrong?

This has nothing to do with Jurecki. It's a common sense numbers thing. Mathieu hasn't played up to an elite level like he is getting paid. This past season he was just average as was the season before. In this business you can't afford to pay average guys top dollar.

Let Mathieu walk, and sign a guy like Ross Cockrell in the offseason. You save about 12 million dollars in salary and have about the same or better production from your nickel back.

for the skepticism Jurecki gets:

his reporting is consistent with what Somers, Urban and others have been saying. Jurecki is a bit more emphatic on it than others .....
