Not really skeptical. This is what you want out of your coach and GM. Keim advocated for his picks and Wilks is putting them in a position to show their worth. What may end up happening is that Wilks will earn more of a say on roster decisions if these guys fall flat on their faces.
I can't say that I have ever liked Deone as a LB. I did like the idea of Deone as a SS out of college. I know they aren't going to pay him another 8 mil per season moving forward. He is going to have to show much better in coverage this year if he wants to stick around. He has a place in this league but I don't believe he will ever be an instinctual LB.
Reddick looks lost. If you are starting Josh Bynes in nickel over a combine freak athlete LB like Reddick, it is because the freak can't figure it out. Again, I didn't like the pick then, and it looks worse and worse every game. Maybe he gets it, but he is the most likely to be flat out cut next year.
Nkemdiche plays a premium position so I don't think Wilks will just cut him loose. Wilks likes a DL rotation, and Nkemdiche can be a 32% snap guy until his contract runs out if he doesn't become more consistent.
Brandon Williams will either flash on special teams or be gone because I haven't seen him as a decent CB. He is an athlete which is good. He has speed which can help him stick. No one is counting on him which helps IMO.
Chad Williams was a weird situation last year. He started off poorly and never recovered. That being said, he is a physical WR with RAC ability. That has a ton of value in a McCoy offense which is why I am not shocked he is starting on the depth chart.
I am optimistic about Humphries, but I figure I will know about week 10 if he will be around next year.
If I had more time, I would break down the entire 53.
Here is what I like.
