Yesterday, while working around the house, I watched 2 baseball games:
Cubs v Pirates
Dbacks v. Dodgers
one thing really jumped out at me...maybe it will have a major impact as the season continues forward, maybe not...but the differences of the two games were stunning.
Cubs v Pirates: Cubs fell behind early and once the score hit 8-0 in only the 6th inning, the Cubs basically packed it in...they started free swinging at every pitch and I believe the bottom of the 6th they flew out 3 timnes to RF on about 5 pitches. I sensed they gave up.
Dbacks v Dodgers: Dodgers have a comfortable 6-0 lead heading into the bottom of the 5th and the Dbacks could have easily packed it in as "just one of those nights" but did they? Nope. They played smart baseball and chipped away, got the big hit and found themselves on the winning end of it.
Dbacks pulled victory out of the jaws of defeat be sheer effort while the Cubs gave up IMO. Like I said, it may not matter by the time August comes but the Dbacks will win some close games this year and that may propel them into wild card contention or even (gasp) winning the division. Cubs, for all their talent, are right now probably a 3rd or 4th place team.
