It seems ( if healthy) Tim Hightower would be a good fit with what we are going through at the rb position.

Anybody know how he is health wise? I always thought he was a decent rb who got lost in the numbers game.

At this point, and how runningbacks lose their effectiveness earlier than other players, Alfonso Smith is probably a much better option.

While everyone wants to see William Powell, you know what your getting from THT - a consistent back who has proven he can play in the NFL.

But I want to see what Powell can do also.

consistently fumbling. And now consistently sitting at home on Sundays. Let's see what we have before worrying about bringing in somebody we shipped out

Consider him a back up plan. If he's healthy and we have another injury at the RB spot (God forbid) then I think the Cards will call him up.

But he has a bum knee right now, right?

I want to see some William Powell, however I would have added Hightower instead of Smith. Hightower has some of the greatest runs in Cards history. The one in the Eagle NFC championship comes to my mind. Also the guy is a great blocker and knows the system and plays.

My thoughts exactly...but he would need to be healthy.

Powell was my favorite player from preseason, but I would always opt for Hightower instead. We already know what he can do in our system, and that's be a productive back. And we need that since our production has been pretty terrible so far.

Beanie was productive, until he got hurt. Hightower is hurt as well, and I don't expect production out of him, if he can even pass a physical

Hightower isn't hurt. He played in the preseason and on the I think 18 yard run I saw him run, he looked like the Hightower we all knew. I'm sure he still feels effects from his knee surgery. He's probably as healthy as Ryan Williams is.

I don't know if I'd bring him in though. Only because Beanie will be back during the season. (Nov 25th I think he'll be eligible to play)

Now if Beanie was out for the rest of the season, or if we got one more injury, then yes, I'd pick up Hightower in a heartbeat.

I just think we need to give our other guys some chances first and guess I don't want to have to release Hightower when Beanie comes back.

You are correct in the fact that we already know what we would have with THT and it wouldn't be all that impressive, but with Powell we don't exactly know what we have and that is exciting because now we can have the chance to see if the preseason was a fluke or if this guy really can be a good RB in the future.

I remember reading a post at some point about Powell's lack of college production and I look at his numbers in college and can only wonder why he didn't get more opportunities. The guy only posted stats in 1 year in college and that was the 2010 season in which he had 250 yards on only 23 carries for a very impressive 10.9 yards per carry and 4 TDs. Anyone know why he saw so few touches in college? Also looked up his kick return stats in 2010. He average 35 yards on 21 returns (5 of which went for 45+ yards) including a 100 yard TD against Baylor. I would love to see this guy returning kicks especially if LSH is out.

Not discounting that the guy is currently unemployed and would probably take a job with any NFL team... but would Hightower even want to come back here?

I don't believe it comes down to THT or Powell. When Beanie comes back release Smith. THT is surely better than Smith. Provided THT is healthy of course.

Whiz's point of contention with Hightower was his penchant for fumbling the ball. That's why we drafted Williams and traded Hightower to the Redskins. Last season, he didn't have a recorded fumble on 84 rushing attempts so perhaps he figured it out.

I'm not sure he'd want to return, but if Beanie's injury lingers and Powell or Smith are nonproductive, I wouldn't be against bringing him in for the rest of the season.

Hightower's ypc was pretty bad most of the time he was here, and was not good in Washington either.

I'd rather stick with Alfonso and Powell.

2009 his YPC were 4.2
2010 it was 4.8.

That's two of the three seasons he was here.

Either way, I'm excited to see Powell in action. I want to know if his exceptional running was unfounded skill or the by product of running against UPS delivery men and real estate agents.
