...if they had sent McGrady to the Clippers for the rumored package of Maggette, Wilcox, and the #2 (which was possible)

...and if they had participated in a three-team trade with DAL and LAL to get Nowitzki while giving up the #1 pick and Howard (which was also possible).

They would have had Nowitzki, Maggette, and Wilcox for McGrady and Howard, plus would have moved down only one spot in the draft.

C - Dwight Howard/DeClercq
PF - Nowitzki/Wilcox
SF - Gooden
SG - Maggette/Hill (lol)
PG - Lue

Some holes to fill, certainly, but that could have been a pretty cool team.

No, no, it would be a complicated three-team deal with Dallas. I've described this theory a couple of times, buried in various threads. The details are flexible, but the Lakers would wind up with the #1 and probably two other good players, maybe Jamison and Howard, or Jamison and Walker, or whatever.

I still think that a LAL/DAL/ORL trade is the most likely way that O'Neal gets moved. The Lakers won't play ball unless they're getting a credible big man back, and Nowitzki doesn't count for their purposes.
