At the beginning of OTA's, there was one thing that caught my attention immediately when I reviewed the video. That was the three words stenciled on the back of Coach Bruce Arian's 'T'shirt. Those words were Trust, Loyalty, and Respect.

Why do I find that so different from the regimes of Denny Green or Ken Whisenhunt? This is the first time that these words have been put out there to show that they will work BOTH ways, rather than simply from player to coach.

BA has (already) shown that he is willing to extend great trust, respect, and loyalty to his players, as well as expecting that same back from them. He put great trust into PP and Kevin Minter when determining whether or not the team should make an effort of drafting Tyran Mathieu. He also put great trust into Andrew Luck, in determining to draft Stepfan Taylor at RB. Better still, those are but two such instances I will mention, but they have at least caught my attention, and surely have caught the attention of those much closer to the action.

While this is not the first time that fans here in the desert have heard those words coming from coaches, it is pretty rare to see the HC reciprocate so openly with his own trust in his players. I believe that this bodes very well for the team, and that it sets the example for leadership in all facets of the franchise to extend 'real' trust both up and down the chain of command. If everyone follows this example, it can only help to keep channels of communication open, and develop loyalty and respect for each to the other. That could ultimately create a very deep bond between everyone in the franchise, ownership, front office, coaching staff, roster, and workers at all levels in the organization. If that should indeed happen, then there is almost no limit to the positive results that putting those three words on his shirt, (and showing that it goes both ways), can bring. To me, this is a very exciting time to be a Cardinal's fan.

Great post. I already believe you see that if you watch BA in action last year, during games, and listen to him talk (mostly yell) at his players, rookies or not. Some people seem to think he's this mushy player coach, but that's not what I saw. He's one of the most vocal and hardcore coaches I've seen/heard on tape during games. He's calling out adjustments and communicating through the whole thing.

I honestly didn't see many clips of him gushing over dudes or telling them great job--he's teaching and coaching, and in those moments, the moments that count, he's hard. You can only do that if you have the trust of players that he knows wtf he's talking about. I've recounted this before, but they had one clip on NFLN where Luck throws deep and throws and INT, and BA runs to him as he's coming off the field and yells, "I told you, that's not the look to go deep, you have to take the crossing pattern." Luck goes out again, same situation, throws deep again, incomplete. BA goes to meet him, Luck says, "I know...crossing pattern." Next time out Luck goes crossing pattern for an 80+ yard TD. Only then does BA do his gushing.

However, his loyalty thing rings hollow to me since he got rid of Adub. Loyalty is loyalty and Adub gave everything he had to this franchise and BA should understand that more than he did.

Respect and Trust I think BA can feed off. But I don't see the Loyalty, unless you're talking about Big Ben, or a QB of similar caliber. You talk loyalty--BA was one of the only people I've ever heard Big Ben care about. If BA can instill that in a franchise QB then I'm all for it.

Darkside, you are right about BA not being the gushing type. He IS hard nosed, and he is a teacher above all, but he IS fair, and he is loyal and he is respected, and he is trustworthy. When you trust in him, and act accordingly, that trust is returned. He has already shown that.

Do not confuse what happened with Adrian Wilson as being BA's doing. Yes, when the plan to create cap space was explained to him, he agreed to it. But A-Dub was lamenting the possibility of his release long before that. He was concerned already prior to last season, while Whiz was still HC, and there had been any talk yet of Whiz being fired. In fact, most on this board did not believe that, (Whiz' firing), would even happen, though many secretly hoped for it. That was Keim's plan, (and was accepted by Michael) prior to BA being hired. Remember, Michael's original intention was of promoting Horton to HC.

The real benefits of BA exhibiting trust in his players is that, (just as trust begets trust), people start having each other's backs. There becomes an instant bonding process, (which began even with the first free agents brought in). This makes for a very healthy atmosphere to play in, where it is easier to work hard, because everyone is doing it. A team that is totally together is ALWAYS better than a team of individual stars who push their own agenda.

This will be seen, (even now has been noticed), by the rosters all across the league. This WILL become a destination place, eagerly sought by players who have been disappointed with not having their efforts valued by their current coaches, front office, etc. So too will the efforts of Keim, to eagerly work WITH agents to achieve quick and beneficial contracts for BOTH parties. No one, (players, agents, or GM's), benefit from stretching out negotiations just for the sake of doing so. Agents generally only resort to that tactic when the other party is reluctant to actually negotiate. It matters not what the reason is, it matters that there is only apparent movement from ONE side, and that cannot generally be fruitful. Keim has shown so far to be a quick, decisive, and a willing negotiator once he has targeted his prospective player. That too will be noticed by people outside this franchise, and will again be beneficial to the overall good of the franchise.
