LAWRENCE — On Sunday, Kansas basketball discovered the start of its men’s NCAA tournament path in 2025 and when and where that will begin.

The Jayhawks (21-12) will tip off in March Madness as the No. 7 seed in the West region. They’ll go up against No. 10-seed Arkansas on Thursday in Providence, Rhode Island in the round of 64. The winner of that game will advance to play against either No. 2-seed St. John's or No. 15-seed Omaha in the round 32.

Much like last season, although for different reasons, Kansas’s season hasn’t reached the heights many expected it to by this point. It also seems unlikely that what goals are left will be attained with any certainty.

The Jayhawks' performance dipped after a strong start in non-conference play. After struggling through the Big 12 Conference slate, they saw their Big 12 tournament run end in the quarterfinals.

Kansas has relied heavily on four of its starters of late, in Dajuan Harris Jr., Zeke Mayo, KJ Adams, and Hunter Dickinson. For the Jayhawks to make any sort of a run, they will need improved and consistent performances from the likes of Rylan Griffen, AJ Storr, and David Coit. Perhaps, if given the opportunity, Rakease Passmore and Shakeel Moore can also provide depth off of the bench.

It will be a challenge for the Jayhawks to make their first Sweet 16 appearance in the NCAA tournament since 2022. March Madness has not been kind to coach Bill Self’s squad since that national championship run.

But time will tell if this KU squad can put its trials in the past and assume the role many anticipated it would before the opener tipped off.
