he had a choice in that he has had a long career already...and could just retire rather than go play for the deadskins. That is probably his last NFL contract... to get $17.5mil a year guaranteed is huge considering most older QB's are starting to take smaller deals in general.

Derek Carrs 125 mil over five years only had $40mil guaranteed at signing...of course... Stafford got $92mil guaranteed on his five year deal

OK ...he had A choice...I think you knew what I meant. Sheesh.

After Smith's extension it would be crazy if Cardinals chicken out if Cousins asks 27 million a year with 100 million guaranteed. I think reports are linking cousins to Jets.

Redskins can trade Cousins to Browns after applying franchise tag no?

Can’t believe Keim and BA left us in this situation.
BA was all about his own legacy & never cared about the future of franchise. Thats the issue with hiring a 1st time head coach at twilight of career.

The thread quickly flipped from an Alex Smith signing to a discussion of Cousins.

I actually thought it was going to be the Card that had a deal in place for Alex Smith---it was going to be the hidden piece revealed down the road (when trades are 'legal') that would convince a new coaching staff to come aboard.

So much for my crystal ball.

Maybe our new coaching staff aren't as bright as we give them credit for being---did they really get in the Card's car without a steering wheel?

If Smith is indeed off the market, got to consider Cousins. Don't have to pray for a legitimate QB falling to us at #15 nor do we have to trade the next few years of draft capital to get a guy who might not even pan out even if we do move up in this draft.

I'll second AzCrazy on Cousins and Vita Vea---keep our draft future, get a legitimate young QB starter and a monster for the D.

If Cousins goes to the Jets, Browns, or Broncos, Baker Mayfield will be our QB guys. I will be extremely happy with that. I still love Lamar, though. Won’t mind either.

Where did you come up with that notion.?

BA stated many times that he wanted to get a QBOTF in place before he finally retired. No need to re-write history and smear BA. His legacy would have been strengthened with a QB brought in on his watch and his imprint and mentoring would have been part of the Cards future.

Are you predicting the future? Someone could always jump ahead of us like what happened with watson.

Believe the structure of the Cards operation had SK with control and final say on the draft and BA having control of the team on the field.

BA's philosophy of 'no risket--no bisquit' didn't apply to SK's running the draft. SK develops his BPA list and sticks to it---not much room to reach for need with conservative SK who sticks with his BPA draft board.

Yes! The dude can throw the ball over the mountain and Cards would have made state if coach only put him in. He throws a wicked steak across the middle of the street on crossing patterns even with a Pedro peddling close behind the Dynamite receiver.

Soooo glad we didn't get taken like this.

Agreed, actually. I thought we could get Smith for a 3rd rounder, and I was thinking the one that we're looking to get for losing Calais. A player and our mid-round 3rd round pick would have made me question a lot.

This is a crazy move by the Redskins, honestly. Before evaluating this year's QBs? With middling offensive skill players? I wonder if Cousins' camp said something that basically just completely shut down the idea of him coming back.

Possibly, what is their cap situation like. I guess they think they're a few players away from being a contender, and needed the extra cap space.

Somebody put a watch on Uncle Rico's drop and release. He goes through his progressions before he flips the ball out with little wasted motion. If only Tebow could have been coached by Uncle Rico.

There’s a reason he hasn’t signed a long term deal & franchised 2 years in a row at inflated price$! it takes both sides to make a deal. Something tells me Kirk & his agent wanted to be the highest paid QB in the NFL with a new deal & the Skins wouldn’t budge.
