"To make that type of analogy actually just shows stupidity. You've got to realize, this is the same guy who said he wanted to play in Madison Square Garden because of the aroma. He meant 'aura' but he said 'aroma.' So you've got to put everything in perspective." -- Flip Saunders, on Stephon Marbury saying that Amare Stoudemire is better than Kevin Garnett.

It's from slam.com, I didn't hear that last season when Marbury said that although he said that Amare as a rookie compared to Garnett as a rookie.

Put this in Steph's locker room before their next game.

I've seen that. It doesn't sound like a big deal. Flip's just trying to protect his franchise player. When Marbury decided he wanted to leave the Wolves, Flip did everything he possibly could to try and get him to stay.

It's just possible that Marbury knows MSG a little bit better than Saunders does. I wouldn't be too sure that he didn't mean "aroma" after all.

I swear the media are just a bunch of snakes. Every one of them knew that Marbury was comparing those two players as they were as rookies. Then they went and misquoted him or misrepresented what he said when they asked for a response from KG and others.

Jason Kidd once said something about hunting his team to make a complete 360. No one said this guys are well schooled. I'm sure if we went through everything KG has said over the years we could find plenty of stupid things.

i found it weird because

a) I definitely don't remember that comment last season. We all exhausted the topic, so I thought we would have seen all of the quotes.

b) I am pretty sure that it is known that steph and flip are still close. Supposedly stephon still calls saunders and asks for advice from time to time. Not to mention every other quote I have heard from saunders about Marbury has been nothing but positive.

Beating someone up because they use the wrong word is fairly petty, but I'm sure Flip was just trying to be funny. Or should I say, "flip".

My impression was that Garnett is at least partly to blame for this recurring flap. Amare had a much better rookie year than Garnett, but what had Kevin pissed was that Amare had the best game of his career against the Wolves:

Exploded for a career-high 38 points, the most ever in NBA history by a player making the jump from high school to the NBA in his rookie season, against the Wolves in only his 31st game on Dec. 30, 2002
