Zach Buchanan interview with Steven Souza:
The week leading up to this deadline can sometimes be a back-and-forth negotiation, an “if you’ll sign for this we’ll tender you” sort of thing. Did you and the Diamondbacks try to work something out?
Zero. Nothing. Nor was there any discussion when they called me. It was pretty much severed, “It’s not happening.”
Was that surprising for you?
Look, there’s got to be frustration on their end for trading for a player and getting two injured years. If I’m a GM, which I’m not, and a player I traded for has been injured two years in a row, I can’t imagine rolling the dice and then something happening again. I would lose my mind. I’m sure that’s what Mike Hazen’s thinking, and I totally understand that. I get it. It’s stressful being a GM. There’s a lot of tough decisions you’ve got to make, and I’m glad I don’t have to do that job.

Guess you could make same case for Walker, although they did get more results from him before his injury.
