Makes sense as they went heavy in free agency for the offense: TE Carlson, LT Veldheer, WR Ginn, RB Dwyer, and OG/C Larsen. CB A. Cromartie was the only new defense player that they signed.

Finito, this is what I said on March 22nd. You can read the thread, "Cards' Draft Is Taking Shape". My take is that we'll go heavy on defense.

I've read and posted in that thread, but this came out today and is the GM saying to the media I want to build a juggernaut on defense. He clearly has a plan and its refreshing to hear for once.

But I agree with you I want defense defense defense in this draft

I think it would be amazing to be able to watch a team with an amazing defense on Sundays. Teams like the Seahawks, Ravens back in the day, Steelers back in the day were an absolute blast to watch because of how physical they played. They intimidated QBs and always performed well.

I throw gas on my Dickies erry day, and the only reason I think we take defense in round 1 is because that is who will be there as BPA. Been saying that erry day.

Gotta find a big stud Safety and a legit edge rusher! We do that and Keim could very well have his dominate defense!!

SK has talked defense twice in the past two weeks, causing myself and others to think that we'll emphasize defense in the upcoming draft. Now I'm wondering if Steve's blogs/interviews is part of a pre-draft smokescreen? Defense makes the most sense (other than a RT and TE) but this could be a draft change of direction play. What a great time of year.

I think in the NFL draft, it's also a little easier to tell if a certain type of prospect will fit into a particular teams D. On early picks they have a tendency/ability to start soon and produce quickly. The offense for the skill players sometimes takes a bit more development time sometimes.

Maybe the Cardinals wan't to build a juggernaut on D. And maybe the FO is also more inclined and adept at drafting on the D side early. But there have been some misses recently as well under the previous regime, so it's hard to say. But players like Mathieu, *Minter (trade down for extra pick), Campbell, Williams, Peterson and Washington going back, they've sure hit some pay dirt early in drafts. But then you have your Branch's and buster Davis who were pretty bad misses the same year (2007). Especially when you could have gotten Draft#:34 Paul Posluszny, with the very next pick. When I was watching at the time that's who I thought they traded up to get. Interestingly, Drew Stanton our b/u QB was also picked by Detroit a few picks later that same year.

Offense, you need a little more patience with, but you can also find some skill players later like Ellington last yr. Complete robbery by the Cardinals.

I hear what you are saying.

I think the Cardinals defense has been pretty darn good over the last two years, but as you state, they can become one of those crazy dominant defenses.

I like how Keim has embraced a team identity, and is looking to strengthen it, and not lean on it.

Everybody says Edge rusher and safety. Also need players to groom to replace Dollars Dockett and dan Williams.Better DLine depth so no more Talley types.Plus better talent as reserves gives starters more rest.

Growing up with this team I always liked offense more and I have to say, the last 2 years I have started to see performances that make me like watching defense more. I guess I just like to see good football.

The good news is that our offense is now competant and fun to watch too, not as fun as the D but that is ok.

The D was so stout last season that is rose the hairs on my arms. The season before too but the season before the offense was so bad that it really didnt matter much how good the D was.

Dan Williams played pretty well last year we don't need to groom his replacement and Taa'mu was a pretty solid backup IMO.

But either way, starters are more important than backups. You don't leave a huge hole at safety so you can have Dockett's replacement on the bench.

Dan Williams is awesome. He's still young only been in the league what 3-4 years? The last two he's been dominate at his position remember his job is not to rush the passer it's too clog up the middle and not let those lineman get a push he a big reason why we have the number 1 run defense. Ta'amu showed me a lot hopefully he can comeback 100%.

And every teams misses on draft picks no one had ever gotten it 100% right. You can always play the we should of drafted so and so game

Nobody said that.Dan Williams is a FA after 2014.either re-sign him or get a backup to TaAmu later in the draft.Dockett is mostly a non-factor for many games so finding talent to replace him is important also.Nobody said ignore Safety position.
You do you draft a safety in RD 3-4 or a player who can get reps this season rotating with Dollars Dockett while grooming to take over DD`s spot in 2015?
TaAmu is also coming of a knee injury and until he is okay it never hurts to keep depth.

DD has not been a non factor. We do need to start grooming his replacement before too long but I suspect he will take a paycut next year and gve us 3 more good years. Calling him a non factor is a little silly at this point.

Weakest link on our defense right is now is Safety IMO.

1. Tyrann Mathieu may be out for X amount of games
2. Rashad Johnson is nothing more than mediocre
3. Tony Jefferson went undrafted, has potential to be good, but still questionable to be a full time starter
4. Yeremiah Bell is currently a free agent (and 36 years old)

If the Cardinals want to 'win now' then the Safety position needs to be addressed.

Dockett had a few decent games and a couple of good ones. The rest of the time he was just a body.3 more years of rapidly declining production.

This is not shocking, especially since we have the most open spots on the defensive side of the ball. On offense, we are talking about a RT & TE spot being open and very little less. Palmer, Ellington, Fitzgerald, Floyd, Veldheer and Cooper are all pretty entrenched.

On defense, things are more rotational. DE, OLB, ILB, S and CB are all spots that can up graded by an early draft pick and get some immediate results (maybe not at CB).

I don't agree that DD has been a non-factor. In fact I think he had one of his best seasons in 2013. But I do agree that the Cards need to start looking for his replacement because Dockett will be 33 in May.

Thing is we really don't know what his assignments were & if he did what he was supposed to or not. Only the coaching staff can tell us that.

It constantly amazes me that DD and PP get lit up on forums, when they do their jobs correctly the team play goes up, and I see both of them putting in work the whole game.

9-0 may not be the player he once was but he still damn good. I hope he retires here and gets a ring here and whatever happens I think he deserves to go into that ring of honor. Say whatever you want but you never see him taking plays off or half assing it out there

Dockett is a nonfactor...sure, most around here feel comfortable believing that fairy tale. Dockett does nothing, except in the mindset of opposing offensive coaches. And while we are at it, let's make sure to throw some darts at Powers for being a solid #2 corner, but I guess that does not count even though a majority of the passes go his way and we are still a top defense
