Former Texas football defensive end Kenneth Sims died Friday at the age of 65. He passed away in his sleep after battling illness according to a report from 247Sports.
A National Football Foundation College Football Hall of Fame inductee, Sims attended Texas from 1978-81, collecting 322 tackles, 29 sacks, 50 tackles for loss, 15 forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries and three blocked kicks. He earned consensus All-America and first-team All-Southwest Conference honors during his last two seasons at Texas

In his final year in college, Sims won the Lombardi Trophy and was a unanimous first-team recognition among the five recognized All-America teams. Texas finished with a 10-1-1 record and a No. 2 overall ranking, the highest it had reached since 1970.
After his stellar college career, the New England Patriots selected Sims No. 1 overall in the 1982 NFL draft, the third-ever Longhorn to be drafted at that slot. During his eight seasons with the Patriots, Sims recorded 18 sacks, including 5.5 during the Patriots' 1985 run to the Super Bowl. New England would lose Super Bowl XX to the Chicago Bears, whose roster included fellow Texas-ex Steve McMichael.
