KENT — Kent State University has placed football coach Kenni Burns on administrative leave with pay, according to a Kent State spokesperson.
According to the university, executive deputy athletics director Greg Glaus will continue to oversee the administrative responsibilities related to the program. Offensive coordinator Mark Carney will direct on-field activities.
No further comments were provided.
ESPN college football senior writer Pete Thamel first reported Burns had been placed on administrative leave.
Kent State is coming off an 0-12 season in 2024 and has compiled a 1-23 record in Burns' two seasons as coach. The Golden Flashes have not won a Mid-American Conference game in his two seasons, going 0-16, and have not beaten an NCAA Division I FBS program. The lone win came against Central Connecticut State (38-10 on Sept. 9, 2023), an FCS team.
The Golden Flashes have lost 20 consecutive games, their longest losing streak since losing 21 straight from 1981-83.
Last season, they ranked dead last in the MAC in points per game (13.9), total yards (2,799), yards per game (233.3, which was nearly 100 fewer yards than the next worst team), total yards allowed (6,189), yards allowed per game (515.8) and points allowed per game (44.1)
