LEXINGTON — The first Kentucky women's basketball season of the Kenny Brooks era came to an end on Sunday with an 80-79 overtime loss to Kansas State at Memorial Coliseum in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
In the first year under Brooks, the Wildcats (23-8) were a 4-seed for the fifth time in program history and made it to the second round of March Madness for the first time since 2021.
All-American guard Georgia Amoore finished her college career with an 18-point performance and dished out six assists to set a new single-season program record with 213. The record was previously held by Patty Jo Hedges, who recorded 206 assists in the 1982-83 season.
While Amoore had an off shooting game, making 7 of 23 shots from the field, it was Clara Strack who led the Wildcats for much of their final game. The sophomore center finished with a team-leading 22 points and eight rebounds.
Dazia Lawrence came alive late in the game, recording 11 second-half points for the Wildcats.
Still, when the lights were at their brightest, Kentucky leaned on Amoore.
After Temira Poindexter made a 3-pointer from the wing to give Kansas State a 67-66 lead with 39.8 left in regulation, UK put the ball in Amoore’s hands, and she knocked a down a 3-pointer from the top of the key to put Kentucky ahead by two. Poindexter totaled eight 3-pointers.
