LEXINGTON — Deuce Bailey’s layup with nine seconds left in overtime lifted Bowling Green to a 52-51 win over Adair County in the opening game of the UK Healthcare KHSAA Boys Sweet 16 on Wednesday at Rupp Arena.
The Purples (29-6) led by as many as 10 points with six minutes left in regulation, but Adair County mounted a comeback by hitting on eight of its 12 shots in a five-minute stretch to take a 46-44 lead on an Isaiah Cochran layup.
Braylon Banks tied it for Bowling Green on a runner down the lane with 40 seconds left. The Indians drained the clock before calling time with 3.5 seconds remaining. Connor Loy got a good look at a 3-pointer off the inbounds pass, but it hit off the rim. Brayton Coomer also missed a putback.
Banks led the Purples with 16 points, while Kadyn Carpenter added 13.
Cochran and Loy had 14 apiece, with Cochran adding eight rebounds and Loy grabbing nine. Coomer finished with 13 points and eight boards.
