There are undoubtedly many keys to any game, but there is one on each side of the ball that I believe might be the difference makers in this game.

Offense: Palmer's nerves.
People keep speculating that the tape job is bothering his release. I disagree... Palmer has been sailing balls high all year when he gets in big games until he settles down. Clearly he comes in too amped up in some games and takes a while to get settled. The other part of this is he also tries to force things and this is where the bad decisions and picks come into play.

We saw how this type of thing can cost the game with Wilson. Wilson was trying to get away with his usual crap of wildly throwing off his back foot under pressure to avoid sacks. Instead of getting away with no intentional grounding calls or even sometimes miraculously completing a pass he got burned and put into a huge hole. Palmer is going to need to take what the defense gives and not let his nerves or will make a particular play happen get in the way of protecting the ball. If Palmer comes out loose and focused and I think we'll be in for a great game and win the TO battle.

Defense: Covering Olsen
I think our secondary can handle the WRs well enough they don't stand out as a primary threat to me. We usually do well against the run and if we can keep Newton from running on us a bunch we'll be even better. Olsen is a huge part of their pass game and TEs have often been an X-factor against the Cardinals. I think the Panther's best chance to get momentum carrying plays and move the chains at key moments will be with Olsen.

I think the reason the Cards seem more susceptible against TEs than they should is because our offense doesn't involve much passing to TEs (unfortunately). I would guess this means the defense doesn't practice against receiving TEs as much as other teams that do use them more. It would be crazy to think the Cards aren't aware the threat Olsen presents and aren't cramming for that, but at the same time I still think it could prove to be a pivotal factor if they don't do a good job holding him in check.

Close runner up on offense are the O-line for obvious reasons, but they did enough to where I don't put Palmer's play on them. As well as the run game, which also goes hand in hand with the the o-line. The on defense pass rush and defensive play calling are the close second and somewhat tied to the Olsen observation. If we aren't getting home with the blitz and pass rush then we need to stop blitzing if we are getting gashed. It seemed pretty clear it was not effective but out of denial we kept going back to that well for punishment. I suspect we may need to give Bethel some help as I expect them to try to pick on him.

What is your #1 offensive key (singular) and defensive key you think will play a factor in this game?

Btw, this is one game where Honey Badger could be a great help, just a shame he was able to finish out this season.

Offense I agree we need Palmer to play well, which is easy for anybody to say but IMO a big part of that is offensive line play, I don't think as a whole the offense played very well against the packers. Defensively play assignment football and we should be fine

Pass protection on offense and the Cardinals stopping the run are the keys to the game in my opinion. I don't believe either will be easy.

Also don't believe we win without some turnovers.

Pass protection has to be the #1 priority on offense. If the OL creates enough time for Palmer to go through his progressions and hit the intermediate or deep routes, I like our chances. Better protection should also limit the turnovers.

Greg Olsen is the key. Stop him and we win. Put Peterson on Olsen. That will screw the whole game plan up and shut him out. Their weak WRs should be able to be covered by our other DBs just fine.

Put Bethel on Ginn...

Bethel won't be able to stay with him, but Ginn won't catch the ball, so advantage Cards. :)

Make their passing game beat us.

Give Palmer time to pick their secondary apart.

Both easier said that done.

Don't turn the ball over but if you do make it on a deep pass "Like a punt"

Key to the offense is the Oline. Need to protect CP and establish the run.

Key to defense is not letting Cam run around without pressure.

I will say this. Carolina has a very talented team and their record shows it but they are a very young team that frankly lacks veteran leadership and their coach seems to have as much control of their emotions as Marvin Lewis does of his Bengals... I do not think it would hurt for the Cardinals to mess with their emotions on the field :)

He just had the best year of his career...and that included 10 TD's...He's not great, by any stretch, but he's come to play this year.

Not letting the COLD and Crappy Field take them out of their game. Last time I checked the predicted temperature is 35° http://nflweather.com/. Dome / warm weather teams have a history of playing very poorly in adverse weather conditions.

This is my biggest concern too, but wasn't it rainy and kind of nasty last year too?

Hopefully the turf will heal this week.

It's supposed to be sunny all day Sunday and breezy that means it's going to dry a lot that day.

I think it's colder than maybe we'd like but 30 degrees is just good football weather. I see no problems.

I am trying to break down the Panthers offensive performances this year. A couple of things stick out to me. They only played 3 games against teams more highly ranked than the Cardinals' D: (2)Seattle twice and (3)Houston.

Cardinals are ranked #5 in total defense, #6 in Passing D, and #8 in rush D.

The remaining defenses Carolina faced were ranked: 10, 12, 15, 16, 17, 24, 26, 28, 30, 31, and 32.

Against these teams, they averaged 23 points off of TD's and resulting XP's. The rest of their scoring came from field goals or defensive TD's (averaging 8 additional points per game).

Looking at their passing game, Houston and Seattle kept Carolina under 200 yards in the air in 2-of-3 games. In fact, CAR only passed for over 300 yards in 4 games all season. These came against the Falcons, Saints (x2), and Giants; the 18th, 31st, and 32nd ranked passing defenses, respectively.

The key to the Carolina offense is the rushing game. They average 143 rushing yards per game. Their lowest run total was 105 against the Jaguars in the season-opener. That being said, they've only played 2 teams with a top-10 rushing defense: Seattle twice (1) and Houston (10).

What they did to Seattle last week was impressive, but it came mostly when the Seahawks were slipping and sliding over that crappy field in the first half. They also benefited from a defensive TD and short fields.

If you make the Panthers march the length of the field, they are going to do it in a plodding, punishing pace. They won't quick-strike, unless Ginn gets loose.

If the defense is responsible in their gaps... If the No Fly Zone shows up... If the Panthers aren't gifted any gashing runs or short-yardage downs...

The Cardinals will have the advantage against that offense. We will be one of the Top-3 Defenses they have seen all year. Just have to play fundamentally sound football.
