My aunt just purchased a Dell computer, one of the cheaper models. I went over to set it up for her and one of the bays is missing a cover. It is half the size of a standard CD ROM bay, maybe a space for a 3.5 or zip drive. Basically you can look into "the guts" of the case or shove stuff into it. Should Dell have put a cover on it? Should I be able to go up to the computer store and purchase a cover?

You can get a cover at a computer store, they're like $1.50

Dell should have included the cover.

I would call them and have them send you one.

Depending on the case you might have trouble finding one that fits correctly.

This is what I thought. Those covers vary from case to case. The whole is the same size but the way they attach is different.

If you call Dell they'll send one out. I got a computer from them with a bad monitor, they overnighted a new one out.
