Yeah, the problem is, he isn't really good at the job. Wait, let me rephrase - there are few people with as long a track record as Keim at draft failure. It's documented over 9+ years.

Same problem with KK. He isn't a good head football coach, he's a creative coordinator. (and he's even said as much himself!)

"A lot of people are great at that, managing games, and that's not my strong suit. My strong suit is calling it and interacting with the quarterback. I've got to play to my strengths."

So we have a GM who can't draft, and isn't any better in FA, and a head coach who ADMITS that managing games (pretty much the main responsibility of a coach) isn't his strong suit.

LOCK THEM UP FOR 6 MORE...WHEEEEE!!!!!

1. When are we going to stop recycling a KK quote after year one, and if I remember correctly Arians also stated back in the day that his strong suit was playcalling. If MB and Keim hadn't seen improvement as a H-C then he'd be history like the guy he replaced.
2. No one would suggest that recent drafts haven't been weak at best, but we can't simply divorce Keim from his record as head of scouting when he was making the recommendations in the previous regime. Maybe his true failure is hiring and promoting guys like Harris and Wilson.
3. I can't see how anyone can put his record in recent drafts on par with FA and trades.

Coaches they like? What kind of ridiculous standard is that? Liking a coach is a justification for extension now?

You're just going to ignore the fact that two years in a row, his team failed miserably in every game that mattered?

You think if the Cards start hot and then fall apart again, that teams will look at 3 years of the same crap and say "let's get that guy!"

If that happens, I'll be the first to eat crow and say I was wrong about Kliff. But we all know where this is headed - we have tons of holes, and the wrong people to fill them. We have two teams that are light years ahead of us in the division, and another that beat us soundly when they were just playing out the string!

Who's scenario seems more likely?

That's what a winning franchise would do.
Who are these teams exactly? One of them we swept & the other two we split games against in the regular season. I wouldn't say any of them are light years ahead of us.

Between the Suns game costing me a chance to win a $2000 parlay and Keim getting 6 years.

6 year extensions for two guys who have never won anything will guarantee mediocrity. Why are they being rewarded ? Kliff has proven in both college and the NFL that he is not a closer. Keim has proven he doesn't know how to draft and is only capable of bringing in over the hill retreads on short term deals. Together they have never won a playoff game and are now on the verge of demonstrating they made a mistake on their second first round QB drafted in consecutive years. Long term stability is great but only if it comes with sustained success. I certainly don't blame Keim or Kliff for taking the deals. But Michael's misplaced loyalties is likely to come back to haunt him and Cardinals fans for years to come.

Stability comes before success.

This what the FO is doing to the loyal fans

6 more years of KK, SK and possibly VJ

What can go wrong?

This is really sad for them to do this to us. As a loyal fan I feel like I'm supporting a sinking ship

I'll come around when the season starts, but this really hurts

Same old Cardinals for 6 more years

I wanted to move on from Keim purely because I think his best teams are older and built on trades and free agency.

Kliff has grown as a coach and deserves way more leeway.

But five year extensions after the end of last year? No thank you.

I do see the continuity perspective though.

I feel this way too, but I think we both know we’ll all be back here on game one of the season in 2022.

Unless something changes I won't be.

He'll be back sooner than you think. Like game 1

Not unless we get a big change. I'm a stubborn ass. If I hit my breaking point and write someone or something off than it's as good as dead to me. The Suns lost me like this in about 2012 with their non-sense and I haven't been back. Not a dime spent on them and I haven't watched a game outside of 2 games in the finals last year for which I was at someone's house and they had it on. I don't care at all about them now even though by all accounts they're a great team. There's zero interest.

That's about the point I am with the Cards now. They're not dead yet but the doctor has them on a ventilator and saying it's only a matter of time. Not being stressed on Sundays in the fall is going to be nice.

If we were in good cap space and need two or three players I could understand the extensions even with the late season fade and dismal playoff showing.
But we’re not. I can’t believe how stupid Bidwill is. I understand sticking with Keim and Kingsbury for another year but a 5 year extension is beyond ridiculous.
Keim must have a golden line of crap when selling Bidwill on the state of this team.

The timeline now:

Cardinals enter into negotiations with Kk's agent on an extension.

Agent tells Kyler that Kingsbury and Keim are getting rewarded for a successful season.

Agent asks Keim about Kyler. Is told no and he has to prove himself after the end of the year while he is getting rewarded.

Kyler feels he is being scapegoated for the end of the season when the two guys above him are getting paid.

Agent has Kyler send a message via social media that he needs to be paid too.

Front office (Keim) leaks multiple negative stories about Kyler. These were likely what was used as the reason for justifying the end of the season.

Kyler issues a rebuttal

Michael doesn't let Keim go on the local radio as standard so he doesn't make the situation worse

Michael says he loves Kyler.

Kylers agent issues a response to Michael.

Extensions signed for Kliff and Keim.

Deadline put on Murray's extension

I would love to hear where you have seen Kliffy grow as a coach. More creative offensive schemes? Heck no! Better play calling in the red zone? Lol. Time management/situational play? Lol. Ability to adjust ? Lolz

I think he was talking about his beard. That's the only thing that makes sense.

I am guessing the casual Cardinal fan either likes these deals or really doesn't care either way. The team won a lot or games last year, got to the playoffs and have big named players like Watt, Hopkins and Kyler. There is a reason why JJ Watt has the best selling jersey on the team, and it's not because of what he did on the field last year.

The more knowledgeable Cards fans, along with the media, obviously sees these deals much differently for the most part. I haven't seen a single media piece praising the extensions. Most of the board seems to be questioning aspects of both deals at least. But Michael either doesn't notice or flat out doesn't care. I'm pretty sure he just doesn't care as long as he is having fun and making money.

I went through a similar scenario with the Bulls and their GM. If this situation runs on a similar timeline, things won't get better any time soon.

Agent knows Keim situation is safe if the team has a setback year with all the roster turnover. Setback year for Kyler = playing with his 5th year option.

and . . . what about Vance? . . . . . . crickets ...
I would have taken a Billy Davis firing at least.
