Mel Kiper has his final grades for the 2005 Draft, and I got all riled up because the headline reads "Dallas, Philly, Baltimore earn top draft grades". BUT...when you read the first paragraph, it actually reads as follows:

"The group of clear winners includes last year's NFC champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, as well as the Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens and Dallas Cowboys. Those smarting a little as they prepare for minicamp are led by the Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs."

Incredible. One of these days (I'm thinking probably soon) all of these slights will turn around.

It's our turn to start kickin' some serious booty.

Leave it to the headline writers to pick out what they think will make people read the story.

Yeah I saw that to. What a joke, but we are the Cardinals still, till we do make the playoffs.

Here's what Kiper had to say about the Cardinals if any of you are interested and don't have ESPN Insider:

"Arizona Cardinals: A
The Cardinals had to have a corner and a running back in this draft and they got both in the first two rounds. Antrel Rolle was maybe the best defensive player on the board and J.J. Arrington is a productive back who was a good value in the second round. Eric Green adds depth at corner; linebacker Darryl Blackstock and guard Elton Brown were also nice values; and if linebacker Lance Mitchell reverts to his pre-injury form, he could become a decent player."

Its not in the report but the headline. Almost like people wouldn't read it if they mentioned Arizona in the title.

Go to ESPN right now and click on NFL. There's a picture of Rolle holding his Cards jersey and it says this:

Draft's A Wrap. Some picks were head scratchers, some were great values, and some teams (Vikings and Cardinals) were winners, writes Len Pasquarelli in his wrapup of the 2005 draft. Story

I think we as fans are just to nitpicky nowadays because we see this turning around. Thats just the bottom line.

This team despite a good draft doesnt deserve any national attention, can you really argue otherwise? I mean we were 6-10 last year which is the status quo. We will earn that only when we start winning on the field. I care about wins not recognition in a news headline.

I agree. I'd rather have everyone underestimate us and say "Same old Cardinals". It gives the team a chip on it's shoulder and a "us vs the world" attitude.

Did any of you guys hear the end of the draft where the announcers gave their final thoughts and which team did the best. Kiper actually picked the Cardinals. For the reasons stated above.... I was shocked anyone would choose us..

it's at least a slight slight. when the article mentions four teams and the headline decides to only mention three of those four with the fourth being the cards, well, that's somewhat of a slight.

I know and I am not hating on you, but I get tired of people falling all over themselves to claim there is some great conspiracy against the Cardinals.

Fact is if the Cards win the recognition will come. and not a minute earlier!

Funny thing is - I'm uncomfortable with getting all that love and want to mutter something like: "Who cares what the pundits say; we still have to prove it on the field."

From Len P:

Green went into the draft wanting to get quicker, and he accomplished that with most of his early choices, in particular cornerback Antrel Rolle. The Cardinals are not shy about throwing rookies into the fray -- four of their seven draft picks from a year ago started as rookies -- and Rolle has already been penciled into the lineup. Second-round tailback J.J. Arrington, a player the sometimes transparent Green has been touting since the combine workouts, could start as well. Linebacker Darryl Blackstock and guard Elton Brown were flat-out steals, respectively, in the third and fourth rounds. Even down to the final pick, Indiana (Pa.) wide receiver LeRon McCoy, the Cardinals were going for playmakers
