Kirk was playing against the #3 CB most of the time with us. Now, he will be getting #1 or #2 at worst. I don't think that bodes well for his game.
Yea, everybody knows Kirk won’t come close to performing like a #1. That’s just delusional conversation.

He was WR2 all year. He consistently out targeted Green.

Some here seem to think that slot is automatically WR3, but only many teams it's not.

He also had a 75% catch rate. Just behind Cooper Kupp and top 5 at WR in the league.

Fun fact. James Conner had a catch rate of 95% which led the league. Through weeks 1-8 Conner only had 26 receiving yards. Through the next 7 (he missed 2) he had 350.

Expect Conner to have a lot more of a role in the passing game next year.

I think that because we had Nuk and Green - who generally got the top CB matchups.

How many times did Kirk play a game vs the other teams #1 CB or even #2?

I think Kirk picked up CB2 more often than people think. But hard to tell. But he played his first 3 years mostly outside and had respectable numbers, apart from when Kliff really misused him in 2020.

Anyway, good luck to him. He's better than people think but still not worth that money.

Inside the Christian Kirk deal

Last week, Cardinals receiver Christian Kirk said that quarterback Kyler Murray deserves everything he has coming. Kirk, as it turned out, had plenty coming, too.

Kirk will sign a four-year, $72 million contract with the Jaguars on Wednesday. Here’s a look inside the deal, per a source with knowledge of the terms.

1. Signing bonus: $20 million.

2. 2022 base salary: $1.5 million, fully guaranteed.

3. 2023 base salary: $15.5 million, fully guaranteed.

4. 2024 roster bonus: $1 million, due on the fifth day of the league year.

5. 2024 base salary: $14.5 million.

6. 2025 base salary: $15.5 million.

7. 2022-25 per-game roster bonuses: $29,412 per game, up to $500,000 per year.

8. Incentives: Up to $3 million per year, based on receiving yards.

The deal includes $37 million fully guaranteed at signing. That’s a great deal for a guy who has never had a 1,000-yard season. In 2021, he had 77 catches for 982 yards and five touchdowns.

I would argue that if you can't be effective out of multiple personnel packages, your aren't a "#2 WR". Also, Kirk quite literally was not one of the two WRs on the field in 2WR personnel packages when all players were healthy.

Kirk can be our 2nd best WR and still not the #2 WR. One is determined by production and the other is determined by personnel packages.

The proverbial "it only takes one team" to take a liking to ya. Good for Kirk but really head scratching why the Jags ponied up so much. Crazy.

Agree. He shouldn't be anywhere close to those guys in respect to $$$. He is a good WR just nowhere near Nuk or Adams.

Looks like Jags are hoping that paying Kirk #1 WR money will make him a #1 WR. An "if you build it they will come" moment.

Bah, cmon. He left for generational wealth. Can’t fault him for that. He grew up in AZ and began his career as a cardinal and never complained or seemed not to give effort. He’s a valley boy.
Agreed.
