One possibility is to hire Pat Kirwan as team president and Pete Carroll as head coach with general manager duties. Create a Scott Pioli/Bill Belichik working relationship that exists in New England. Kirwan is good friends with Carroll and worked with him when both were with the Jets. Here is information on Kirwan: http://www.nflyouthfootball.com/exec/nfl_hspd/HSPD_-_Kirwan.cfm?publicationID=20

Well, administering a Youth Football program does give Kirwan a unique perspective on the workings of the NFL, and the Jets were good under Kirwan and Pete Carroll.

Also, hiring a guy who went from the Broadcast Booth to the Owner's Booth worked out well for Matt Millen.

I think that this has all the hallmarks of a Bidwill decision, if not a good one.

Great, yet concise analysis... thank you for your input!:biglaugh:

Just heard on PCI that DG might be getting kicked up stairs instead of being fired. Maybe GM

Let's talk about that.

This idea has been bandied about on this board a little bit for about a month.

On paper it sounds like an ideal solution.

In practice, there might be a problem. If Dennis assumes the role of GM in the traditional sense, it means he gets to hire/fire the new coach. To what degree could he rein in his ego and delegate to the new coach? If he'd still keep his finger in the pot - a la Big Al in Oakland - he would, in fact, still be de facto coach.

If we're unhappy enough about his coaching to kick him upstairs, why would we want him to be de facto coach?

If, on the other hand, DG is bright enough and willing enough to "let his coaches coach" (and if no other option looked better) I'd be for it.

You know, I listen to PAt Kirwin on NFL Radio. The guy is very smart. Maybe he wasn't the best GM in the past though, I don't have a memory or strong football knowledge all the way back then :)
