FYI apparently said on live radio today Zane Gonzalez is our kicker. I can only assume he doesn't think Nugent is healthy and figures his best chance to get a good kicker is continue to be positive about Zane and hope he turns it around.

At this point. I can’t believe he has the backing of the players. They look around the league and there are kickers making 50+ yarders at a 85% clip. Like I have said a few times before We are an elite kicker from 9-3. What is crazy. It is 1 of the most specialized jobs in the world. There are only 32 Starting NFL kickers in the world. But saying that. You would think there are thousands that are capable to pick from. It isn’t that difficult.

Zane is not going anywhere the last four games. 16 for 22, see how he closes.

72% is is barley serviceable trash. However, it’s the types of situational kicks he misses that make him hot garbage. He chokes. You simply cannot trust a kicker who doesn’t trust themself.

In 1984 the Cards were 5-3 and dropped 3 of their next 4 to be 6-6 ( 5 games decided by 4 or less points) after 12 games. They went on to win three straight bating Philly the Giants and New England. They entered the final game on the road vs. a division rival win a win and in game. They lost on a missed 50 yard FG attempt by a kicker with tons on accuracy issues during the season.

In 2020 Cards were 5-3 and dropped 3 of their next four games to be 6-6 (5 games decided by 4 or less points)after 12 games. Their next three games they face Philly, Giants and SF. They end their season on the road with a game vs. a division opponent, with a struggling kicker.

Then what kind of mismanagement has Nugent on our practice squad... makes no sense since Zane is not performing

The Bills nonchalantly moved the ball down the field with about a minute on the clock in the first half and put 3 points on the board. Would be nice to have the luxury of having a competent kicker

yep said it a few times and the reason for that losing streak was the QB, Neil Lomax, had an undisclosed elbow injury he played through.

And we got hosed at RFK in the finale.

Who could ever forget Neil "Big Bird" O'Donoghue. The missed kick was a heart-breaker, but surprised no one.

actually it was a smart idea that most of the NFL did. everyone was concerned what happens if our kicker gets Covid, so they signed another kicker to the practice squad. We picked Nugent. He's had multiple knee surgeries in his career and last kicked last year before the PATS cut him. There was speculation when cut that his knee had issues and at then 37, now 38 nobody was willing to wait for him to heal.

So either the Cards don't think he's got his leg back yet, or they've seen nothing that suggests he'll be better than Zane. But he's there primarily due to Covid. A couple of us have brought that up before with this discussion, this year there are less kickers available because of Covid.

But, you CAN claim a kicker off someone else's practice squad still, unless they changed that rule for Covid?
