I'm happy for them and for Amar'e. I think the Suns are going to begin to get it together soon, as well, now that Robin Lobez will be back in the starting lineup. This will allow Earl Barron to move to the bench, where we can rely on him (hopefully) to provide good energy and interior toughness on the glass without having to play him too much or ever shoot the basketball.

I hope the day wont come when we have to rely on Barron, not if his offense remains crappy, but moving him to the bench might just be what he needs, less pressure

too bad they lost to the celtics.
tsk

Yeah, but I bet there's a few Knicks fans that aren't happy with the refs tonight. There was a pivotal stretch late in the game that had a charge called against the Knicks that was a bad call, followed by the Knicks then getting whistled for a charge when it was clearly a block that really helped the Celts stay in range.

Good for them.
I've always liked Donnie Walsh.

LoL, good thread. I was thinking after the game vs Celtics last night, we needed a new thread like this one.

I think Amare is finally becoming a leader on that team, something he couldn't really do with Nash on the same tieam.

Glad you finally realize that too, which I had been called Nash-hater for.:D

No, not a Nash hater, I love Nash. But let's face it ... he is the indisputable leader of any team he's on, and everyone usually plays 2nd fiddle to him.

That's what they said about Kareem and he eventually handed the off to Magic. They also said that about David Robinson before he passed it on to Tim Duncan. On the other side of the coin Shaq refusing to demur to Kobe Bryant when he had clearly become the lesser player cost that franchise another couple titles.

We'll never know if Nash was willing or able to hand the team over to Amare but it sure would've been nice to experiment. No superstar can do it all by himself in this league (let alone one who's 37 years old), they all need a sidekick.

PS - That goes for Amare too. The Knicks are a nice story but they're still irrelevant in the big picture unless (or more likely until) they get Melo.

Just curious. How many of you think we could have kept Amare under ANY circumstances? I believe he was going to leave for NY no matter what we offered him.

No, if the Suns offered a max deal, he'd stay. He even said it. Amare would have made a difference, but we weren't a championship team with Amare and without him we aren't either. It did make for more fun basketball though.

Yup, he would have stayed if Sarver paid what they wanted. His leaving must have been a combination of how he was shopped around last season and Sarver not wanting to pay what they wanted, but his first choice has always been to remain a Suns.
I don't mind Sarver not paying him as much as the Knicks, doesn't make much sense from Suns perspective, but replacing him with what they got makes even less sense.

He left because of the unguaranteed years on the contract. Period. There was no "combination" of anything. If we had offered him the max contract guaranteed, he would have stayed.

He certainly seemed to flourish once Nash left - and many people were quoted as saying "he took on more of a leadership role."

You're right about that but I think they were much more like co-leaders than anything else.

Sheesh! What exactly does "period" mean. Are you his personal confidant??
You count discount the power of loyalty. The Suns brandished him like damaged good most of last season. If the FO had treated him like he had a future here, it is not impossible he would re-sign, even if NY offered him guaranteed years.
