I’m glad that the fans stuck around for him. For all the guff I gave Marion, he was a hell of a lot of fun to watch and part of truly FUN title contender that always left it all on the court. Easy teams to cheer for, even if the outcomes repeatedly ripped our hearts out.Shawn actually sounds really good. Glad he has a pretty full house still there for him.
I guess at least there’s not that kind of pain to fear coming down the line with this club because this team looks like they don’t have a heart. And if they don’t, they sure as hell ain’t ripping mine out.
I gotta wonder if Vogel is almost fired. This team reminds me of the 2008 or 9. The similarities are eerie. The previous year was DA’s last, we made a BIG swing for a coming off injury Shaq, dealing long time fan favorite Marion. When healthy, they looked pretty good then had Tim Duncan deliver his final Spurs dagger in us and we got whooped out of the playoffs. DA got fired, Porter came in and made us unwatchable with a lot of the same pieces… then got fired after like 35 games. Gentry took over and all of sudden the fun and gun Suns were back. Poured like 140 on the Clippers with everyone going nuts… then Amare’s eye fell out of his head and derailed the rest of the season.
Here, we had the end of a nice three year run, Monty at end of his rope, a BIG SWING trade for KD, swapping out fan favorites. Went into the postseason kinda in same position as that Suns team, put up a better fight, but still lost. Monty canned. New coach comes in. The next season all the pieces look like they might come together but the team is just beyond lackluster. Very Porter-esque.
I can only hope the trend from that 09 season continues. At least it only took 1 year for the Suns to right the ship and get back to the WCF. Maybe that happens with a coaching change and something unforeseen this off-season. But right now? This team ain’t it.
Biggest difference between the two situations was the Nash/Amare twosome was always what that 2004-2010 Suns squad was built around to contend. For us it was CP3/Book and then a great cadre of young guys rising up… but CP3’s gonzo as are the youngins.
Oh well… at least we have the Card…er…nals?
Yeah. Dark times in the Valley of the Suns.
