Want to see this movie despite not liking Tom Cruise. Long story, leave it at that!

I'm not a Cruise fan either but I am looking forward to this movie. If the trailers reflect the actual movie I expect to enjoy it quite a bit.

Doubt this is going to be good. Cruise has final say over most things in his movies and as of a few days ago there was only one official picture. Let me repeat that, ONE PICTURE. That is unheard of. Also Cruise isn't even on the poster. Doesn't that seem odd to anyone else?

Great points.

Here's an article saying basically the same thing:

http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2010/06/tom_cruise_knight_and_day.html

Whether consciously or not, with its marketing campaign Fox has articulated the mixed feelings of any studio advertising a Tom Cruise movie: The K&D poster has CRUISE and DIAZ in big letters, but never shows the actors's faces. Instead, there are just white silhouettes of two running, pistol-packing figures. It's as if Fox is graphically saying, "We've got Tom Cruise! But on second thought, maybe best not to brag about that…"

I don't necessarily see a connection. There has been and still is considerable backlash for Cruise regarding his stance on pills, mental health professionals and religion. Add in the concern with his Scientology connections and I can see a smart publicist wanting to avoid tying the movie solely to Tom's face. They're in a tough position. They want to trade on Tom's star power but they have to be careful how they rehabilitate his image. Shoving his mug in everyone's face may not be the best way to do that.

Maybe you've picked up on just what's really going on but I'm going to cross my fingers that you're wrong because I'm not willing to have my hopes dashed just yet. I like Cameron Diaz (and Marc Blucas but I suspect his role is limited) and I'm a sucker for a fun action flick. Hope I get what I want.

I would like for this movie to be good. I like comedy/action style movies, but when it comes to this I just don't see it.

Well then, I'm just going to pretend you've changed your mind and decided it's going to be a great movie. Maybe that way we can establish some positive movie Karma to make up for the fact that I'm never right in things like this. In the past, when I've ignored the warning bells I've usually ended up wasting my money on some pretty unwatchable trash. Ishtar and Cutthroat Island leap to mind.

great screen-writer in Scott Frank, very good director in James Mangold, Cruise is almost always great when he gets to use his sense of humor and a ton of action. I'll be shocked if it ends up being a hit because it just looks like we've seen this movie a million times, but I'll be even more shocked if the Cruise/Frank/Magold trio end up don't produce something pretty entertaining, box office winner or not.

The line "I swear, if anybody makes a move, I kill myself myself, then her" makes me laugh. I think that sense of humor will do the movie good.

You pretty much nailed it. I wasn't expecting much from this movie but it was very entertaining. Cruise was clearly in his element and he played the role perfectly. It's kind of an Action/Thriller/Romantic-Comedy. The only negative for me was the predictable ending. However even with that said it's still worth seeing at the theater.

Maybe it's just me, but this was the best movie I've seen in months. My 68 year old mom and my 17 year old nephew thought it was great too.

Saw it this past Saturday night with the bride and a neighbor, and we really enjoyed it. It's like a Die Hard movie.... You know none of that stuff could actually happen but you don't care cause Cruise does a great job of not quite looking at the camera and winking, and Diaz plays her innocent ditz perfectly.

Hell no.... it's no Oscar film but it isn't supposed to be. It's just rollicking, humorous and action packed fun. Nice special effects on the plane crash.

3.5 out of 5 stars

I actually enjoyed this, probably due to my low expectations. Pretty silly, but it moved along at a nice brisk pace.

Yeah, it was nothing special but if they made a hundred of these every year, I'd watch every one of them.

Funny, Lucy and I watched this yesterday, at least she did. About 30 minutes in I could no longer take it and I went and spent the next hour plus scanning photographs of one of her nieces as a baby for a birthday present she's putting together for the niece.

I just couldn't get into the movie, was way too far fetched for me I guess they were trying to be funny and action packed, Lucy liked it, I just couldn't watch.
