The Jordan ERA had better baskeball. Nowadays if you breathe on a star its a foul. Jordan would drop 35 a night in this league for pansies. He'd live at the free throw line.

This should not even be a debate. Jordan hands down was a better player.

Not only that, he was a much better player too. Kobe has an incredible intensity and will to win but I've seen no evidence that it drives his teammates to excel. MJ clearly had that kind of impact on his teammates in addition to being at least Kobe's equally offensively. Add in the fact that Michael played great defense throughout his career and he's the easy winner.

I wouldnt even put Kobe in my top 5 and would have to think if he can be in the top 10.. Much less consider him to be anywhere on par with the GOAT Michael Jordan..

Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Bill Russell, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, Larry Bird, Oscar Roberston and Elgin Baylor come off the board before Bryant. Kobe joins the next group (albeit, near the top) of Dr J, Hakeem Olajuwon, Kevin McHale, Karl Malone, Tiny Archibald, Earl Monroe, Rick Barry, Walt Frazier, Jerry West, Shaq, Willis Reed, Nate Thurmond, Jerry Lucas and Bob Pettitt.

As great as MJ was, he did have a lot of great help... Steve Kerr, arguably one of the best spot 3pt shooter (god, I hate him when he did that against Mavs in the playoff when Nash was there), the best rebounder in Rodman (and great defender too), a very very versatile/smart player in Pippen (I would rank him as the best 2nd go-to guy of all-time) and Tony Cucochi (ugh, I hate his last name) and Ron Harper were easily B+ players at that time.

I would like to see how Kobe plays with MJ's castings. The only two "great" players Kobe has now are Gasol and Odom. Artest is ok.

Kobe has echo problem for sure but I don't think MJ is that much better. Kobe's individual performance is out of the world sometimes.

Oh and I HATE Lakers by the way...

Huh? Those title Lakers teams with Kobe had some of the best players at their respective positions. They had Shaq in the past which was probably one of the best 1 - 2 punches in history. Kobe and Shaq were considered the best players at their respective positions.

Now he has Gasol and another player in Odom which would be a starter on any other team. Those Laker title teams have had rosters with plenty of talent. I could go down the rosters of those teams but they had clutch shooters and guys that did something great in one aspect of their games. It's not like Kobe has done it by himself either.

Not only was Jordan a superior defender but Jordan also didn't have the same problem that Kobe does. When Kobe tries to do too much he hurts his team. They have showed the stat that when Kobe shoots a certain percentage of the the teams shots etc....the Lakers struggle. Phil has stated it's been a struggle Kobe's entire career to find balance. When he does they play well. When he doesn't the team struggles. That doesn't sound like Michael Jordan to me. His reputation was lifting the play of his fellow team mates. Not struggling to do so.

Also the rules of changed considerably as well. Can you imagine what a field day Jordan would have with zone defense and some of today's other rules? You can't even hand check now without a foul on Kobe.
