It was a given he would be cut; however, the possibility of letting him "test the waters" of free agency hasn't been discussed.

He'll probably be offered the same contract +/- that Cassel got in MIN, but the demand is lower since teams have already addressed the position. JAX or NYJ immediately come to mind. I could also see STL a possibility to give Bradford some competition.

Now we know why they were waiting until the 11th hour. The team did want him back, but not at the price Kolb was demanding.

Reality is the Jets want and need Kolb. He's gonna get paid...and if he's smart he goes to NY Jets as their O line is strong.

The FO is being polite (IMO) but, this relationship is done. The deal was structured as a two year $20M deal to see if the other $40M would come into play, and that's what it cost $20.55M aprox.
