What an excellent decision and I certainly hope that Bruney is next....

I've often wondered if there are three reasons for Koploves woes...

One.. has he still never recovered mentally from being included in that earlier trade package with LA that the Dbacks would have acquired Penny, Brazoban, and Green?

Two... Does he have some type of injury that he hasnt been willing to disclose?

Three.... Is it some mechanical flaw that he needs to assess and overcome?

I have a feeling it's a combination of all 3...

I liked Gonzalez last year and wouldnt be shocked if he's in the rotation soon (especially if Ortiz continues to struggle)....

It was said that Edgar has completely re-done his pitching mechanics . . . and that he was brought up for long relief.

It's just hard to imagine that the D'backs would demote their new #2 starter Ortiz anytime soon, even if Edgar would fit into the starting rotation better.

Why are GM's more concerned with saving face than putting the best rotation out there? :thud:

I have this feeling that it was more than just coincendental that Gonzalez was promoted before Ortiz is scheduled to start today.... To me it signifies as a wake-up call for Ortiz to finally pitch consistently or else he will be immediately demoted to the BP in favor of Gonzalez.....

True.. the Dbacks obviously vested so much money in Ortiz, but some times a demotion to the BP would motivate a starter to try anything to regain their spot and in the process put more effort into never reliquinshing it again.....

Also... sending Ortiz to the BP wouldnt hurt either since it would help for a brief period to stabilize the Dbacks relief corp....

It's still early yet of course in Ortiz's deal, but let's hope and pray he doesnt turn out to be another Dessens... Ortiz at least has had some long-term success and is more servicable/proven than Dessens ever was... True though that Ortiz pitched in a pitchers park during his best years, but displayed some minimal success/talent on the road as well.....

To me it's more than mental with Ortiz... perhaps he's complacent now that he has a long-term deal.. or he's pressing to live up to such a lucrative contract.. let's hope he somehow manages to overcome it soon since it's still early yet and he can salvage everything when he does in fact finally wake-up...

Ortiz will be another Dessens. Scouts saw he was done as did the sabermetric contingency of personnel people. His signing was widely laughed about in MLB circles as the worst of the offseason.

And Koplove's demotion is good news. We'll see what Gonzalez can do, but at least the team is being proactive in trying to fix this bullpen.

Koplove optioned to AAA Tucson, Edgar Gonzalez brought up to the bullpen, who has been pitching lights out as a starter in AAA. I hope we dont screw with him by putting him in the pen since he seems to project better as a starter anyways.
You called that one. One-third of an inning, 4 runs, two hits, two walks. ERA - 108.0. Ouch!

One issue I'm concerned about with E. Gonzalez is that I hope that he doesnt run out of options all too soon (which has happened to a cpl Dback players over the years).... IIRC, Gonazlez was initially promoted in '03 (I think a couple of times) and was brought-up some time last year.... That soon can all catch-up to him and the Dbacks..especially if they immediately demote him down after a brief stint with the team this year....

Well.. if the prospects of Aquino being recalled tomorrow..I wouldnt be shocked if Bruney is the next to be sent down... Stay tuned.......
