LOL.

Seattle is going to reap the rewards for being paid to take this guy.

KT is having a pretty good year and I certainly wish he were still in Phoenix.

They scored cash and picks and now his salary will be wiped off their books when they get an expiring contract in return.

My fingers are crossed he ends up in Orlando.

Do they really have enough expiring contracts to get KT? Maybe only Magics could get him via trade. I hope they waive him so that we could pick him up.

unreal. he's an asset for the sonics, but b/c of money he was an albatross that COST us picks. that's just poor front office work.

The Mavs set the precedent. Just sign a retired guy to a contract and send'em over.
That works as long as the guy hasn't officially retired by submitting retirement papers to the NBA. The team must also still have the players rights to be able to sign & trade them. I think I read somewhere that there were only 18 guys who haven't officially retired and teams still owned their rights. The rest of them have had their rights renounced because holding a player's rights counts against a team's salary cap number.

As far as KT, we all knew we gave up too much to get rid of him. Kerr is a rookie GM and he's going to make some mistakes. That mistake was probably because of pressure from Sarver to reduce the luxury tax hit. What team is going to trade for KT right now and take on the remaining $4mil of his contract + a $4mil luxury tax hit? What team is willing to give up young players or has enough expiring contracts to make it worth renting KT for a few months? I don't see KT going anywhere unless he is bought out.

A good trade between Orlando and Seattle would be a little big, but it would sure up the Magic's roster for a playoff run.

Ridnour and Thomas (maybe add in Suns 1st) for Foyle, Garrity, Dooling, Arroyo and rights to Vasquez.

For Seattle....They get rid of Ridnour and his albatross of a deal, who they've trying to get rid of for a few years. They also get more of a salary decrease to spend on free agents this summer. All inbound players, except for Vasquez, are expiring. So, in essence they get an extra $6.5mil of cap space.

For Orlando....They get a big that will help Howard, Lewis and Turkoglu. They also get a true PG that will set his players up and help Nelson become a true PG.

PG: Nelson/Ridnour
SG: Evans/Bogans
SF: Turkoglu/Evans
PF: Lewis/Cook
C: Howard/Thomas

they could even go with:
Nelson or Ridnour
Turkoglu
Lewis
Thomas
Howard

If KT winds up with Dallas or SA, I wonder what Kerr and Sarver will say. Will they ever admit they made a mistake, or keep making excuses? I still would like an explanation as to why they didn't wait until the trade deadline to move him. Right now there are teams that might be actually willing to give us something for his services, as opposed to the other way around. But of course the Suns would not trade him to a rival (I would hope), so that would have limited their options, and they might have gotten stuck with his salary and the LT after all. It's the fear of having to pay LT that made the Suns front office act prematurely, and now we can only hope that doesn't come back to haunt us even more.

Maybe we can obtain him by using the exception from the Kurt Thomas trade.

The only reason Sarver won't explore this is because he would look like even more of an idiot for making the trade in the first place.

This is going to go down as one of the worst trades in Suns history after the Sonics draft in 2010. Especially if KT goes to either the Spurms or the Mavs and helps knock us out of the playoffs.

The Suns will look like bigger idiots if they don't. However, the Mavs are short on big men so it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't end up there. This may be a painful process to endure as a Suns fan.

Its and 8 mill lux tax hit. The LT is not prorated. Whoever owns the player on the last day of the reg season counts his full season salary for the tax.

However, KT is an EXPIRING CONTRACT and so is desirable for teams wanting to dump salary (like Memphis, Miami, and others). Isn't amazing how we have to trade picks to get rid of his contract in July, and then in February his contract is valuable for dumping salary in the next off-season?

There are two reasons we did not do this. First, we are in a championship run and we wanted to get our team chemistry right. If KT was on the roster he would have been a part of the rotation and it would have been really disruptive to do a salary dump for him in the middle of the season.

Second. There were $16 million reasons Sarver wanted him gone. His salary plus the salary cap hit. Basically, he sold those two picks for $8 million a piece. The only way to move Kurt at the trade deadline would be to take back even money in a trade. His value is as an expiring. So, even if we got desirable young players back (from a team wanting to dump salary this summer) we would still be way over the lux tax.

ATL just lost Shelden Williams. Maybe they will trade for KT to further ruin our draft pick.

What would either of those teams offer that Seattle would want? Seattle wants talent if they are going to trade an expiring contract. And this is especially true since they want to keep their costs toward the lower end as they figure out where the new home will be for the team. Kurt is a nice player, but I don't think either team will put together a deal that would land Kurt. It's not like low draft picks are going to help Seattle much either.

SA - Bowen and Bonner?
Dallas - Stackhouse? Terry?

The key word for your other question is "might". Teams "might" be interested in taking Kurt on. I can't say that, if it was me, I'd be willing to gamble $16 mil of my own money on a maybe. Plus, we'd have had to either a) take players back and still pay a luxury tax...or b) gamble that a low salary team would take him off your hands completely. How many teams are $8 mil under the cap at this point of the season to be able to do that? Zero.

I wonder whether we placed any condition on the picks included to ship KT, like Sonics don't get the 2010 pick if they KT ended up with one of the predetermined teams for playoffs, say SA, DA, LA, BO.

with diop gone......I expect the mavs to add another big man or at least to attempt to. all of these trades have really been sudden and I won't be shocked to see another one. I don't think think the mavs are dealing terry......for one he just signed a contract before last season and they need his outside shot. I don't know that they can aquire thomas actually unless they depart with a guy like bass. unless seattle wants to give him away for another retired player or something. or the mavs could just role with what they have. I just think they need another big player to backup dampier when he is in foul trouble. which does happen against teams like phoenix and SA.

Such talk r completely nonsense.

KT is still under the contract when we traded him away, which is 8M. If the Sonics can't trade him, they'll just keep him play the rest of season, why should they waive him?

Also, 8M is sizeful, plus it is expiring contract, to make a deal there must be equal money in return and good piece to lure the Sonics. DA, SA, LA, none of them have suitable trade pieces.
