Did anyone watch him play this season?

He is everything that Casey was supposed to be and has better size.
And he was a late second round pick on top of that.

His 3pt-shooting is off the charts. The whole motion compared to Casey is wonderful.

Note to Suns: Don't waste first round picks on guys who are only supposed to be shooters.

And that Dalembert kid looks special. 7' very athletic, long arms, good hands, soft touch, good footwork, tremendous shotblocker and only 22 years old.
(26th pick in 2001..)

I agree on both points...

Casey has been a disappointment in my book. He could flat out put the ball in the hole during High School, Olympic Trials against the pros, and while at Stanford.

You could not leave Casey alone from 30 feet and in. He was that good.

Something happened along the way. He suddenly developed a severe case of "slow-man disease". He has no acceleration. It's all one speed: SLOW. And, that's his biggest problem.

The only way he seems to find a look at the rim is if he pump fakes and takes a dribble or two in. Or, he'll just barrel down the lane and try and jump over somebody. Like that's going to happen!?!?

I'm not sure how he's going to develop. You don't teach speed.

Casey started the season fine but just seemed to lose it. He seems tenative and it makes him seem slower than he already is. Watch Cabakapa, he is ready to shoot the instant he gets the ball. Think about it and the defender is on you (same problem with JJ and he can actually run).

Obvously Casey's lack of a mid range game and the inability to change direction when going to the hoop (I swear he leads the team in charges per minute played) is very discouraging. If he doesn't step it up, the Suns may want to include him in some trade and look elsewhere.

Korver and Dalambert both play for the Sixers. Dalambert had a breakout game tonight against Dallas - Coleman and Thomas were both out so he started and played nearly the entire game.

I know the Suns also really liked Jason Kappono from UCLA (now with Cleveland) as an outside threat. He is a rookie this year and shooting 44% from the field and 48% from beyond the arc. The guy also has no problem getting his shot off. He has a very smooth and quick release.

I never was a big fan of Jacobsen but I do not think that Kapono seemed to be a better NBA prospect in NCCA.
That's just a remark, it's not against your post.

It's hard to keep track of the BS I'm spewing from day-to-day, but I don't think I was one of those people. I've been somewhat infatuated with Kappono's shooting since I watched him play a whole game for UCLA one Saturday last year. I don't doubt for a second that Casey Jacobsen is probably a better defender. But if the Suns are looking for a shooter Kappono excels at it.

I know Dick Van Arsdale talked about him several times before the last three drafts.

I would much rather have Casey than Korver or Kapono--I think he's a better athlete that those guys.

If Casey doesn't come around, the team can cut bait, but those other two are going to clog the ends of their teams' benches indefinitely.

I might take Korver if the Suns could play Dallas every night. ;)

F-Dog, you really lost me there. Casey Jacobsen was drafted for his shooting and scoring, not his athleticism. He's also a first-round draft pick with a guaranteed contract for at least three years, so it's a hell of a lot easier to cut bait with those other two guys who were second-round draft picks.

Even with all the work over the summer Casey Jacobsen still takes far too long to shoot. Those other two guys have nice, quick releases. They are more accurate as well.

I'm not saying Casey is a super athlete, but there's a difference between 'fair' (Casey) and 'poor' (Korver or Kapono).

If Casey can bring his shooting around (mainly his accuracy and range now), he'll be worth much more than the other guys. If not, the Suns will dump him and start working on somebody else. The Suns are only contractually obligated to him for another year, and I don't think that will have any effect on their decision-making.

Korver is mildly useful for Philly, and he'll always be mildly useful IMO. On the Suns right now, Korver would be a waste of roster space and minutes that could be used on a player with upside.

JMHO, as always. :)

i agree, i think casey is a better athlete, but korver is going to be the better PLAYER in the long run. and, when you're speaking strictly of athleticism, despite the fact that casey is the most athletic of all three, he's still a poor athlete at the nba level, so where is that gonna get him?

and i don't get why the suns could cut bait with casey and the sixers or cleveland couldn't cut bait with korver or kapono (who were both second round selections and thus easier to cut)?

what else is involved in shooting? selection? i'd have to say that his shot selection needs work too. so he's got issues with his selection, accuracy and range. perfect for a "shooter!"

I can definitely eat crow. But I still don't like Jason Kapono. I hate the fact that he's shooting so well!

Yeh, hey. I still think he gave the best line in the draft. He said that if he had known how popular Euro players were, rather than going to college he should have moved to Europe, grown a beard, and called himself Koponowitz. Have you noticed his recent photos - he's growing a beard. :D
