Hold onto the ball, Murray!
No. You're advocating a punt of a season but not a tank.Is punting a season (a phrase used in this thread) not advocating for tanking?

When Kyler wins one clutch game--not even a playoff game, but a game to clinch getting into the playoffs--come talk to me. Comparing him to Goff and Wilson is just a joke, man.I said he made a poor throw. How is that a defense?
Kyler is like my 3rd or 4th favorite player on the team. It is just the hatred is easy to put on the QB when the team lacks other pieces and we can't do anything about it.
I can't imagine some of our fans surviving as Lions fans when Goff throws 5 INTs but they win.
Or when Russell Wilson gets to the Super Bowl after throwing 4 INTs vs GB.
Like how is that possible? The QB HAS TO DO WELL he can't play a bad game and the team still wins!?
Impossible!
The crazy thing is this happens when teams play us but we ignore it.
SEA had 3 turnovers vs us in SEA last year. We had a lead at half with Dobbs and lost the game with 0 turnovers.
Stroud had 4 INTs vs us and we lost.
Like do people against Kyler even register these events in their brains?
How about the Chiefs defense allowing 20 YARDS TOTAL in the 4th quarters of the 9 games they were trailing and came back and won this year?
What is the counter-arguement for that one? "Mahomes didn't need the help though." lmao.
But Kyler throws 2 INTs and no matter what happens, if we lose that game, its his fault.
Winner winner, chicken dinner. If we're going to continue to operate a run first ultra conservative offense, what is the purpose of having a 50M QB?
Not really. If we keep him next year, as you advocate, he'll have a huge cap hit should we move off him in 2026, pretty much guaranteeing he'll have to stay ANOTHER year. Do you really want two more years of KM? No thank you.We won't have one until 2026.
Kyler is the 10th highest paid QB right now on a per year average. The difference between Kyler and the 16th/17th highest paid QBs, Carr and Rodgers, is 8.5 mil per year.
Concerns over his contract is a little overstated at this point.
Allen on this team would be MUCH better than Kyler. He plays on the better team.
Talk about missing the entire point.
I doPosters don't want a guarantee of winning multiple playoff games but
No chance for what?Hoping to get 7-10 wins and sneak into the playoffs with a choke artist is most definitely punting a season. It screams to me "We have no chance."
Do you think Sam Darnold does this? Russ Wilson? Justin Fields? Mac Jones? Winston? Andy Dalton?#2 Posters don't want a guarantee of winning multiple playoff games but certainly want the possibility of doing so. I don't see Kyler winning one playoff game, if he can even ever manage to sneak into the playoffs. So...
I do struggle to see a QB option who is supposed to be available and is more likely than Kyler to make the playoffs. You're right, there's just no way we can upgrade at QB over Kyler for next season
Same. I just think we need a better roster to do that.I do
I think Russ or Justin Fields give us the same shot a Kyler does, at a fraction of the cost and cleaning our cap after 2025. Especially Russ.Do you think Sam Darnold does this? Russ Wilson? Justin Fields? Mac Jones? Winston? Andy Dalton?
There are like 6 non-rookie QBs in the NFL who get paid less than Kyler and are arguably better. Mahomes, Allen, Stafford, Baker, Geno and Darnold. The others are Carr, Watson, Rodgers, Cousins, and Minshew.46M vs. 50M is a distinction without a difference. A guy like Geno is making half of that. If you're not going to build your team around your high priced QB and are going to run an ultra conservative offense, why have a high priced QB in the first place? The value simply isn't there.
Fields is really bad. He makes Kyler look like Drew Brees. I disagree there.I think Russ or Justin Fields give us the same shot a Kyler does, at a fraction of the cost and cleaning our cap after 2025. Especially Russ.
Darnold’s a possibility but will just cost too much after being a one year wonder.
So in reality, Kyler made two good decisions. One poor throw and one great play at the last second by the defense.
Sorry if this wasn't clear - my point isn't that Kyler is overpaid - it's that if you're going to run such a conservative offense and limit the QB in so many ways, that the system itself doesn't require a highly paid QB, and could likely be ok with a caretaker at QB.There are like 6 non-rookie QBs in the NFL who get paid less than Kyler and are arguably better. It's just not that big of an overpay.
I get what you are saying. My point is that Gardner Minshew at 10 mil does not make the team better than Kyler at 46 mil. Minshew's worse passing just makes the run game worse and gets even less out of our receiving room. I don't see teams making the playoffs with awful QBs.Sorry if this wasn't clear - my point isn't that Kyler is overpaid - it's that if you're going to run such a conservative offense and limit the QB in so many ways, that the system itself doesn't require a highly paid QB, and could likely be ok with a caretaker at QB.
Another possibility is that Kyler is so limited himself that they designed the offense in this fashion to not expose him.
Neither possibility is positive in the grand scheme.
Yep, and the line still played like dog doo what is your point?
I mean, that would be awesome, but not reality. Not at this juncture.I do
Of winning anything. No chance for what?
I'm not sure at this point. What I do know is that it's possible and it's literally in Monti's job description. He has to get the QB decisions right moving forward. Sticking with a lame duck is lame.Do you think Sam Darnold does this? Russ Wilson? Justin Fields? Mac Jones? Winston? Andy Dalton?
Right?That's some take
I don't see us making the playoffs with Kyler Murray either... you know... like we haven't for 5 of his 6 seasons. That's why continuing to keep him as our QB is not just a punt on next season, but also hurts us in 2026.I get what you are saying. My point is that Gardner Minshew at 10 mil does not make the team better than Kyler at 46 mil. Minshew's worse passing just makes the run game worse and gets even less out of our receiving room. Sure, nobody thinks Minshew would make the team better than Kyler. But if your team insists on running such a conservative offense and spend the 36m difference on some additional talent, perhaps you would have a better overall team. I'm not advocating for that, but I also think at this point the ceiling for Kyler is a 1st round exit and a lot of bad body language.I get what you are saying.
