And for the record, Kyler only met 2 or Parcells 7 requirements for a college QB. Dwayne Haskins was the same.

  1. Be a three-year starter
  2. Be a senior in college
  3. Graduate from college
  4. Start 30 games
  5. Win 23 games
  6. Post a 2:1 touchdown-to-interception ratio
  7. Compete at least 60-percent of passes thrown

This got me to thinking about how many QBs that Belicheat has drafted.

Not a very good list...

2000, Round 6, Pick 199: Tom Brady, Michigan
2002, Round 4, Pick 117: Rohan Davey, LSU
2003, Round 6, Pick 201: Kliff Kingsbury, Texas Tech
2005, Round 7, Pick 205: Matt Cassel, USC
2008, Round 3, Pick 94: Kevin O'Connell, San Diego State
2010, Round 7, Pick 250: Zac Robinson, Oklahoma State
2011, Round 3, Pick 74: Ryan Mallett, Arkansas
2014, Round 2, Pick 64: Jimmy Garoppolo, Eastern Illinois
2016, Round 3, Pick 91: Jacoby Brissett, North Carolina State
2018, Round 7, Pick 219: Danny Etling, LSU
2019, Round 4, Pick 133: Jarrett Stidham, Auburn
2021: Round 1, Pick 15: Mac Jones, Alabama

Doesn’t have to be good when Tom Brady was the starting QB in NE for 18 years. Everyone else was drafted to be a clip board holder. Matt Cassel, Jimmy G, and Jacoby Brissett all have had good careers and made it as the starter on a different team.

And two (three?) of those guys were traded for draft picks!

Cassel was part of a package sent to KC for a second round pick that later because Patrick Chung, Ryan Mallet ended up being a head case before being traded to Houston for a 6th, Jimmy G was traded for a 2nd to SF, and Jacoby Brissett was traded for Phillip Dorsett.

I wonder how Kliff handles Kyler?

He seems like a kids gloves kinda guy to me and that he's more likely to tell him how awesome he is than say "You have to do better. You missed Nuk here for a TD, you missed Kirk here for 40" etc

That is the new mode of young athletes. I am not saying I like these young kids demeanor, because I do not, but they have to be handled in a different way. All I know is this, Kiiff knows QB talent and knows how to develop them. I refuse to give Andy Reid more credit than Kliff for Mahomes' success. Granted some of this is inherit talent, but I have full confidence with Kliff handling Kyler... now Kliff's ability to keep his focus past the offense and pay attention to game management as a head coach is a totally different story lol

I disagree here. This is an amazing list of you factor in that prior to Mac Jones, Belichick never used a 1st round pick on any of these guys. Cassell, Garoppolo and Brissett all great picks.

The thing about Dan Arnold isnt just his height. Its that his height gave Kyler enough trust to put up to him. He had belief Arnold would "win". That why some throws to me it looked like he had better anticipation.

I think while he's young he's still about instilling confidence. Kyler's lack of experience is a big reason for that.

I mean he could have torpedoed after the Lions/Panthers losses. Instead he started putting together his best ball.

To me its about awareness. Kyler is still aware (based on interviews) just how far he still has to go. That message could only be made clear by the coach.

Actually 4 of them had more success than most QBs drafted (Brady, Jimmy G, cassel, and brissett) including the best of all time and jury out on Mac at this juncture. So overall I’d say that’s a pretty good track record.

Obviously, Lamar is faster. However, Lamar grew up running track/ran track in HS. Kyler was a baseball guy. I think there is a chance he could improve his long speed.
Rank
1

Kyler Murray
Arizona Cardinals · QB
10+ yard runs: 32

10+ pct: 24.1%

15+ mph runs: 94

15+ mph pct: 70.7%

Murray succeeds Jackson as the NFL's most explosive ball-carrier, and did so not by ripping off more 10-plus-yard runs -- they had the same total at 32 -- but by breaking 15 mph more often. Murray's 94 runs of 15-plus mph were the most of all ball-carriers in the NFL, leading to the highest rate of 15-plus mph runs in the entire league (by far) at 70.7 percent. That's what pushed Murray past Jackson for the No. 1 spot, but we're not done there. Murray gained the second-most rushing yards on scrambles in 2020 (427 yards), per Pro Football Focus, and accounted for 88 of Arizona's 133 rushes versus light boxes (less than seven defenders), gaining 621 of Arizona's 819 yards in such scenarios. His 7.1 yards per carry against light boxes was the third-highest average in the NFL (minimum 50 rushes versus light boxes), and his six rushing touchdowns scored in such scenarios were the most in the league. The point we gain from this info is simple: Kliff Kingsbury's spread offense makes for easier going on the ground for ball-carriers and especially for Murray, maximizing his potential as a runner while also forcing defenses to respect the threat he poses as a passer. He was NGS' No. 3 deep-ball thrower in the league last season. Murray couldn't be in a better offensive situation than the one he occupies in Arizona, and it has helped elevate him to the status of most explosive runner in the NFL.

Doug Farrar of Touchdown Wire broke down which NFL quarterback is the best in the league at one particular skill. For former Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Kyler Murray that would be the three-step drop.

Murray showed more improvement than he was generally given credit for in his second NFL season, showing upticks in completion rate, touchdown percentage, Adjusted Net Yards per Pass Attempt, and a serious decline in sacks. Murray learned to a point to let the play play out before getting frenetic in the pocket, which certainly helped.

Something else that helped was his efficiency on three-step drop throws — he completed 122 of 174 such throws for 1,426 yards, 912 yards, 14 touchdowns, three interceptions, and just seven sacks. Murray’s 114.3 quarterback rating on three-step throws was the league’s highest, which put him first here over Ben Roethlisberger, who led the league with 331 three-step drops and threw 23 touchdown passes, but also had six interceptions.
