Kyrie Irving: So I feel like this ties hand in hand because even after I got injured, certain media members were coming out trying to blame J-Kidd, or blame the Dallas Mavericks. You know, and all this other stuff—they were trying to blame people. Because I was playing a lot of minutes. I'm telling you right now: if you ask 95% of the league—there’s another 5% that don’t really care when they play—but you ask 95% of the league if they’d rather play 15 minutes or 35 minutes a night? I guarantee you, 95% of them would say 35 minutes. I led the league in minutes. So f*** what? So the f*** what? Like, you guys are blaming other people—so the f*** what? It doesn’t bother me. I play professional sports. My job is to be conditioned at a very high level. I had to step on Valanciunas’s foot for me to be off-balance and get injured. I didn’t get injured from fatigue. I didn’t have a fatigue injury. I take great care of my body. You know what I mean?

Been traveling today, but just looked at the updated injury report which has Anthony Davis as doubtful -- an upgrade from the past month recovering from left adductor injury. Also, Gafford, Irving, Lively, Martin, Prosper, Exum all out. - 10:06 PM

More on this storyline

Kyrie Irving: You know, when I dealt with injuries in the past, I was definitely one of those isolating personality types. I would go into my room, close the blinds, and sit in the dark. And I think that's how I fell into some depressive states. I had trouble being honest with how I was doing. This was all happening in my 20s—even into my late 20s. So now, dealing with this injury—I'm smiling a lot more. I had to make sure I thanked God at that free throw line. Keeping my faith strong—it was so tough to go to that free throw line. Man, you guys are about to make me get all emotional talking about this again. -via YouTube / March 24, 2025
Kyrie Irving: I love the game so much that I would be out there playing 45 minutes, you know what I mean? Or 48 minutes. I was ready to do that. I was preparing in the summertime for that—to play sometimes 48 minutes straight and not get tired. Or—I was obviously going to get tired, I’m not gonna say that’s cap—but I was willing to put in the work to be rewarded with some of the accolades I was getting. Because I was just putting my best foot forward. This season was one of my best. It wasn’t my best ever—I think my best ever is coming in the future.” -via YouTube / March 24, 2025
Kyrie Irving: I was born in Melbourne, Australia. I spent about a year and a half there — my dad played for the Bulleen Boomers. My mom and dad got together, and a few months later I was born. My mom ended up getting sick and had to fly back to the West Coast — Washington State. She was raised in Port Orchard and Bremerton. She went to Lincoln High School and later to Boston University, where she met my dad. When she got sick in Australia, she flew home first. My dad had to suddenly leave with me and my sister Asia. We went back to the Bronx — Mitchell Projects, look it up — and that’s where I spent a large part of my childhood. My dad created an environment of love, morals, and respect — old-school values. My mom unfortunately overdosed in 1996. I was four. Not long after, my grandmother passed the same way. It changed our lives forever.” -via YouTube / March 24, 2025
