OK, just for giggles, facilitate the trade of Melo to LA

Phoenix trades: Vince Carter and Orlando Pick
Phoenix receives: Andrew Bynum and Ty Lawson

Denver trades: Carmello Anthony and Ty Lawson
Denver receives: Vince Carter, Matt Barnes, Orlando 1st, Lakers 1st

LA trades: Andrew Bynum, Matt Barnes and 1st round pick
LA receives: Carmello Anthony

Not sure we would draft anyone better than Bynum with the Orlando pick, and the Vince Carter cap space won't be that much.

Then we can immediately trade Bynum to Atlanta for Josh Smith.

Everyone is happy.

Is Lawson and up and comer? Any cap fit throw in would be fine there.

When Denver finally does trade Melo, it won't be for much more than that. They have very little negotiating room. Having LA enter the picture is the best thing that could have happened for them. They are going to lose Melo this summer anyway.

If Melo was interested in Phoenix and willing to play some power forward, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I think his game is better suited inside where he can use his physicality. He hurts his team when he starts relying mostly on his outside game. He also gets beat a lot on defense but as a power forward he'd be comparatively fleet of foot. Playing Frye, Anthony and Gortat together against the bigger lineups might actually let us match up with the Celts and the Lakers. I'd try to hang on to Lopez or a 1st though if possible.
