I know it is still a rumor but this makes a lot of sense. We sign DJ Foster to replace Ellington. Ellington gets cut for CJ2K.

I feel confident in CJ2K as a reasonable #1 RB.

Chris Johnson - RB - Free Agent
Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports the Cardinals intend to re-sign Chris Johnson.

It makes sense after David Johnson was sent to injured reserve with a wrist injury. Johnson did not look great in the preseason, however, and the Cardinals kept Kerwynn Williams over him for a reason. Johnson is not guaranteed a role, but he is worth a speculative add in deeper leagues.

if this is true, and it certainly makes sense, the roster cut would probably be Brittan Golden in light of signing D.J. Foster to help with the return game. Golden is well liked and will be kept on speed dial, as he has been a few times before. It would be hard to think BA would cut Ellington now.

Thank God because I do not take the preseason as some kind of proof. People saying CJ2K is slow then should be irate that Penny is on the roster because his forty time should be done with a sundial. Chris is great at pass pro and blocking a rusher and by the looks of this OL, he is going to be needed. Again, maybe his 4.5 forty now does not impress some of you but DJ looked pretty slow too before the injury while trying to run through the junk of this OL

He knows the offense and is surprisingly good at picking up rushers. However, the Cards cut him because he showed no burst to gain more than a few yards at a time. I wonder if CJ will demand a guaranteed contract to sign.

I like this a lot more than running with what we had.

Honestly, I saw it too but at the same time, even in his great year with us, it took 10+ rushes before something would happen. He is the kind of back that needs to get in a rhythm before he looks good.

He is a far better blocker than AE or KW as well.

I am good with this.

This whole lack of burst to me is BS personally. I would wager Johnson could still beat anyone at the position running the forty maybe excluding Ellington and Ford, I know he is still faster than Williams and anyone with a straight face would be lying if they would say that they would bet on Williams over CJ in a sprint :)

All backs need to get in a rhythm... watch, if signed he will not let the Cardinals down, I actually have hope now lol

Before he got injured, DJ was sluggish in a manner similar to CJ.

Suggests that (1) both backs were rusty and, (2) both would hopefully shake off that rust reasonably quickly.

So now, there's only CJ, and we should expect his "git-up" to improve as soon as he rounds into shape. At least that's the hope.

One factor yet to be determined is whether, in DJ's absence, BA will decide to alter his offense to attack the perimeter more and run between the tackles less.

Finally, comparing Penny to any other RB currently on this team is like comparing grapes to cantaloupes - he's a role player.

But Penny is occupying a spot on the roster, making him fair game and a easy one too :)

Is Ryan Matthews still not able to play? Because I would rather have him. When healthy he's just as good as any back but that's the thing. He's rarely healthy.
