For the first time since the trade that changed the trajectory of both franchises, Luka Doncic makes his return to Dallas as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers in a nationally televised game.

Since that trade that was made official on Feb. 2, Los Angeles has gone 20-12 to get to 48-31 overall, third in the Western Conference. Dallas, meanwhile, has gone 12-18, some of that without Anthony Davis (he's healthy now) to fall to 38-41, in the 10th and final spot for the play-in.

The Mavericks can actually clinch a spot in the play-in with a win, as they are three spots ahead of Phoenix with three games to play.

The Lakers are 4 1/2-point favorites on Dallas' floor.

Doncic was ejected for arguing with a fan Tuesday in Los Angeles' loss to Oklahoma City. He faces no further discipline and it won't affect his status against Dallas.

Lakers vs. Mavs prediction

Pickswise: Take Dallas with the points.

It writes: "The Mavericks will be returning home where they have excelled this season, and with the visitors on the second night of a back-to-back, they should be confident they can stay competitive in this one. These teams did face off once already this season post trade between the teams, with the Lakers coming out on top in an 8-point win. While the Mavericks have lost Kyrie Irving to injury since then, they will have Anthony Davis back in the fold. With the Lakers on the road and fatigued, the hosts should be well positioned to stay competitive tonight."

USA Today: Lakers 123, Mavericks 107

It writes: "The Lakers -3.5 (-110) are a fantastic play against the skidding Mavericks. First off, Luka had a triple-double in his initial meeting with the Lakers. Second, he should return to Dallas with a chip on his shoulder. Back L.A. -3.5 (-110) and go a little aggressively on this wager.

Covers.com: Austin Reaves Over 4.5 assists (+100 at bet365)

It writes: "Reaves has thrived as a scorer since the Doncic deal, benefitting from a ton of open space with rival defenses drawn to James and Doncic. While his scoring output soars, his assist totals have dipped, as have his potential assist metrics.

"Reaves is averaging just 5.4 assists since February after dishing out 6.1 per game before the trade. He’s still topped five or more dimes in 10 of his last 16 games and had five assists when L.A. hosted the Dallas Mavericks on February 26."
