I am really starting to like this guy. In fact, he's my pick in the Cards draft contest for their 2nd choice. He's strong, uses his hands well, and plays with leverage. He can be used in a rotation with Watson to come in for passing downs and provide an inside pass rush. He's not big enough, right now, to be an effective run-stopping NT but he plays the run well and can develop into the position. He's not a small guy at 6'3 305 and will likely add weight with age. Ryan Pickett was a penetrating DT when he came out of OSU and morphed into a decent NT,as have others, and Houston is already as big, or bigger, than Bryan Robinson.Even if he doesn't develop into a NT he will still be a nice addition to the DL rotation with DD and CC. Maybe some Texas fans can chime in on him but i like what i see.

He's a player but I'm pretty sure he wouldn't fit our 3-4 defense. He's got a great motor for a DT

Coming out of FSU, I don't think DD was considered much of a 3-4 DE but, like Dockett, the guy plays hard and can be a force on the DL no matter where he ends up playing. Granted players fit different schemes better but i think Houston is pretty good, verstaile prospect and would get on the field in either position.

I don't know, CBus... that's a pretty narrow base.

Love the guy, but he's more of an DE in our base defense, can possibly slide inside on third and long, or take Dockett's spot and let Dockett move in. Would rather have a real NT, but won't compain if we take him in the 2nd.

I really like Houston. He had 14 sacks last season but got lost in all the hype about Suh and McCoy. However, we really don't have a place for him unless it is to supplant Iwebema and I don't see the Cards taking someone in the 2nd round to be a backup/rotation guy.

Well the Dan Williams pick ended any chance of taking him and getting Williams is a much better option.

If we are going to take a 3-4 DE I am hoping for Syracuse's Arthur Jones in the 3rd or 4th.
what's the deal with his injury? I saw him rated as late 1st/early 2nd but now see him down in the draft.

He tore his lateral meniscus (sp?). He had a partial pectoral tear during the offseason and missed all of summer work and camp, but still played every game until his injury. Quintessential leader and great human being. Loves to work and tough as nails. Doug Marrone (Syracuse's new coach and former OC from the Saints) said he is the most eager to learn player he's ever coached.

On a team that sucked he was a lone bright spot and even though he was doubled and tripled every play he was still in the backfield all the time. As a DT, he had 19 tackles, 7 for a loss, two fumble recoveries and a sack and a half in 9 games with offenses game planning for him alone every week.

He is a definite starter in a year or so though. I would imagine we'd take him if we weren't too sure that we were keeping Dockett and to a lesser extent, Branch.
