Will Ferrell Travels to Land of the Lost
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
April 23, 2005

Will Ferrell is attached to star in the comedy Land of the Lost, based on the 1974-77 television series of the same name for Universal Pictures, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Adam McKay, a former Saturday Night Live writer who directed Ferrell in Anchorman, is attached to direct, with Chris Henchy and Dennis McNicholas signing on to adapt the screenplay.

The series revolved around forest ranger Rick Marshall and his children, Will and Holly, who are caught in a time vortex while rafting on the Colorado River and transported to a mysterious world populated by dinosaurs.

Kirsten Dunst & Jack Black Get Lost
Source: Ain't-It-Cool-News
April 29, 2005

Ain't-It-Cool-News received a report from a scooper who says that Land of the Lost series producer Marty Krofft talked to Orlando's 104.1 radio station and revealed new casting for the big screen adaptation:

Marty Krofft was on the radio this morning talking about the DVD releases of "Land of the Lost" The subject of the new movie version came up. He said that along with Will Ferrell, the movie will also have Kirsten Dunst and Jack Black. He also mentioned that they plan to use the lowest of the high tech digital effects when making the film so it will look similar to the tv series. He then talked about how they are going to be making an HR Pufnstuf movie with Jack Black staring in it as Witchiepoo.

I love the casting of Kirsten Dunst! Bravo!

Really?

Personally, I'm wondering if Dunst and Black are going to be Ferrell's kids...?

Land of the Lost

Release Date: June 5, 2009
Studio: Universal Pictures
Director: Brad Silberling
Screenwriter: Chris Henchy, Dennis McNicholas
Genre: Adventure, Comedy
MPAA Rating: PG-13 (for crude and sexual content, and for language including a drug reference)
Website: LandoftheLost.net

Starring: Will Ferrell, Danny R. McBride, Anna Friel, Jorma Taccone

Plot Summary: Space-time vortexes suck!

Will Ferrell stars as has-been scientist Dr. Rick Marshall, sucked into one and spat back through time. Way back. Now, Marshall has no weapons, few skills and questionable smarts to survive in an alternate universe full of marauding dinosaurs and fantastic creatures from beyond our world - a place of spectacular sights and super-scaled comedy known as the Land of the Lost.

Sucked alongside him for the adventure are crack-smart research assistant Holly (Anna Friel) and a redneck survivalist (Danny McBride) named Will. Chased by T-Rex and stalked by painfully slow reptiles known as Sleestaks, Marshall, Will and Holly must rely on their only ally - a primate called Chaka (Jorma Taccone) to navigate out of the hybrid dimension. Escape from this routine expedition gone awry and they’re heroes. Get stuck, and they'll be permanent refugees in the Land of the Lost.

Based on the classic television series created by Sid & Marty Krofft, "Land of the Lost" is directed by Brad Silberling and produced by Jimmy Miller and Sid & Marty Krofft.

So glad the casting changed over the years: No Dunst and Black.

Looks funny from the previews.

Sleestacks gave me nightmares as a kid. My mom had to stop me from watching the show because I kept wanting to sleep in their room. And I was like 5. People on acid trips shouldn't be allowed to make kid's programming.

Really?

I always thought they were completely harmless, plus where'd they develop the crossbow things they shot at everyone? They all needed viagra or something a rather limp wristed effort at terror, these things were slow, fired wimpy crossbows that never hit anything and weren't particularly bright either.

I was more scared of Alice that kept showing up at predictable times.

I admit it's comical looking back, but when you're 4/5/6, they ain't cute and cuddly like Pete's Dragon.

This movie was funny and fun. I would recommend it if you just want something dumb to laugh at.

Just watched it, agreed.

Not a great movie, so keep your expectations low. Some of the scenes were doggone funny.

Danny BcBride really cracks me, so it had that going for it.

Seems like they missed an opportunity to build a franchise of family films though, like National Treasure has successfully done. This wasn't really a family film, nor was it interesting enough to make a sequel.

My dad ruined the tv show for me as a kid. I was watching on Saturday morning and he walked in and pointed out that man and dinosaurs were never alive at the same time so the caveboy(chaka?) was historically incorrect. No mention of the sleestaks mind you just that dinosaurs were extinct before man showed up and in fact probably played a role in man showing up since dinosaurs were the top of the food chain.

I don't think I'll bother to watch the movie just seems like every Will Ferrell movie is the same, take a bit that's funny for 5 minutes and turn it into a movie.

Saw this one recently. Now I understand why Jack Black opted out of it.

I don't like Will Farrell and have not liked any of his movies. Even tho I really liked him while on SNL.

Stupid, silly and non-interesting. It's true - all Will Farrell movies feel the same; trying to turn a 5 minute skit into a movie.

I did like the Chaka character a lot! I kept thinking it might be Ben Stiller under all that makeup.

Ron Burgundy is kind of a big deal.

Did your dad happen to explain how the Professor could make a radio out of palm fronds and coconut shells but not a transmitter or even better a boat?

:)

I thought this movie was pretty good for what it was--a goofy comedy. I laughed out loud a few times.
