My computer is starting to die and I need to go out and get another one. Does anyone have any recommendations on a good laptop? I don't need anything special and want to keep it under $500.

It is the screen. I was told it will cost around $200 to fix but since the computer is nearly 5 years old I figured I'd just spend a little more money to get a new one.

We got a Toshiba last year for my daughter, and she loves it. This one seems pretty good, if you're not doing anything super fancy on it:

I've had very good luck with the refurbished Dells - a laptop and a desktop. Never had any problems with either and they are a lot less $$ than new.
