Yes. They made it slower if you ran crappy and faster if you ran well.

I think they just use good ol' fashion Field Turf. Not the fastest surface, but it's pretty consistent.

• Defensive backs always put up some of the better forty times at the Combine and this year was no exception, with a number of standout performances. Michigan's Leon Hall was the guy who probably had the most riding on his time and he did very well, clocking an official time of 4.39 which could entrench him as the #1 rated cornerback. LaRon Landry of L.S.U. was also extremely impressive and may have solidified himself as a Top 10 overall pick with his 4.35 clocking, however Reggie Nelson of Florida, the guy he is battling to be the top safety chosen, only managed a disappointing 4.53 (unofficial). Chris Houston of Arkansas had the big day that everyone was expecting with a 4.32 time and he probably worked his way into the first round while Marcus McCauley of Fresno St. and Eric Wright of UNLV came through with solid 4.38 times.

Landry would be a solid pickup for us.

Something could still happen with Calvin Johnson, I don't think I could ever call a WR the safest pick in the draft. Landry does everything, and him and A-Dub would be beastly together.

He can run, but can he play football? What has he done over a 3 year college stint? Do we need a safety? My girst impulse ( I don't know the kid from Adam) is to say we have bigger fish to fry.

The turf in Indy was replaced last year and is a faster surface then was worked out on in years past.

When scouts compare the numbers today to past players most will add .05 to todays players times.

One other thing to consider with the times and everything else combine is that almost all players are working with trainers who prepare them for each of the test they will be going through like no time in previous history and each year the trainers get better at it, so therefore the players put up faster times and are stronger and more explosive.

I am on the Calvin Johnson bandwagon also. Can you imagine Boldin, Fitzgerald, and Johnson on the field every offensive play. It would be a nightmare for defense. Plus Edgerrin James running the ball behind an improved offensive line. The cardinals will score 30+ points per game.

I'm on board the Landry train. And the people who are against him I just wonder why? If Thomas isn't there then the pick should be Landry IMO. You don't pass on a guy who hits like Shawn Taylor but is a fast as Ed Reed.

I'm getting on the bandwagon for Landry at #5 especially after his workouts at the Combine. He has cornerback speed and really could be an impact player at free safety much like Ed Reed is for the Ravens. He has been a four year starter at LSU and was a starter as a freshman for Nick Saban 's national championship LSU team.

FWIW, I DESPISE the Johnson @ 5 bandwagon, but I think the kid is about as sure one can get in terms of this draft, regardless of position.

Wow...that surprises me. The next turf is has longer "grass" than traditional astroturf, with dirt and rubber mixed in between the blades. All of that sounds slower to me.

Its great to see the Cards finally in a postion where they could take any of several guys at #5 and do well.

Used to be they really needed one guy and he would always be drafted before the Cards turn.

I like Landry as well. I don't the cardinals can go wrong picking Adams, Johnson, or Landry.

I love Landry, but I dont know if we could pass on Anderson or Adams for him at 5. It would be a very difficult decision, but I still would go with Anderson to help improve our D-line.

Secondary is our biggest concern on defense. What would be strange is to have a corner that most of us feel has safety speed and then draft Landry, who would give us a safety with corner speed.

Here is what my draft guide says about Landry:

Has great size. Very good instincts. Plays smart and is very aware. Makes all the calls and adjustments. Good open field tackler. Fills the alley quickly. Very punishing hitter. Has very good feet, a smooth pedal in transition, and can plant and drive on the ball. Great eyes and anticipation. Works hard and takes care of his business.

DOWNSIDE: Does not have great downfield ball skills and tends to play the man instead of the ball. Will mistime his jumps and looks out of his element climbing the ladder. Can be overaggresive and miss a tackle. Drops some catchable balls. Fake tough and insecure about his identity. Thinks he is great and wants to make sure everyone knows it too

THE WAY WE SEE IT A four year starter who walked into Sabans complex system from day one and quarterbacked the defense of a
national championship team. Will quickly make an impact in the pros. Possesses the athletic ability, instincts and football intelligence to regularly play in the pro bowl if the success does not go to his head

Many of the experts are saying Chris Houston is the #2 back in the combine. If you are looking for a man on man DB I think he is number 1 as he is very strong and prides himself on keeping the receivers from getting off the line of scrimage. He did 27 reps and I know he benches 450lb at his workouts at the university. If he would cut off some of his dreadlocks he could probably add more speed. He looks like Stephen Jackson when he runs. I see him going earlier than low in the first round. Maybe not top 10 but in the middle.
