This show deserves its own thread I thought, I guess its topics typically end up in P&R though.

Just watched the may 8th episode on the new Philippian president and scientific studies. The president was wild to see that someone like that can gain power.

http://www.thestar.com.my/news/regi...sident-elect-duterte-to-visit-pope-apologise/

Davao (Philippines) (AFP) - Philippine president-elect Rodrigo Duterte is planning to visit the Vatican to make a personal apology to the pope for calling him a "son of a *****", the politician's spokesman said on Thursday.

"The mayor repeatedly said he wants to visit the Vatican, win or lose, not only to pay homage to the pope but he really needs to explain to the pope and ask for forgiveness," Peter Lavina told reporters in the southern city of Davao.

Duterte, the longtime mayor of Davao, surged to a landslide election win on Monday following an incendiary campaign in which he gleefully used foul language to disrespect authority figures.

In a rambling speech to announce his presidential run, Duterte lashed out at Pope Francis for causing traffic jams in Manila when he visited the mainly Catholic nation last year.

"It took us five hours to get from the hotel to the airport. I asked who was coming. They said it was the pope. I wanted to call him: 'Pope, son of a *****, go home. Don't visit anymore'," Duterte said.

Catholic leaders in the Philippines condemned Duterte's comments but, like many other controversial remarks, they had little impact on his popularity.

Other campaign firebombs included saying he wanted to rape a "beautiful" Australian missionary who was sexually assaulted and murdered in a 1989 prison riot in Davao.

He used "son of a *****" to describe many opponents and critics, including current President Benigno Aquino.

Duterte also vowed repeatedly that he would kill tens of thousands of suspected criminals in an unprecedented law-and-order crackdown, and boasted so many bodies would be dumped in Manila Bay that the fish would grow fat from feeding on them.

The scientific studies was good info to know though. Helps me really discern what to actually look at and what is complete garbage that most people take as "science"

I love John Oliver. He doesn't pull punches and has pretty much taken on the JS mantel in terms of calling out those that traverse BS Mountain.

I figured the show could use an ongoing thread though, we do make threads often on what he discusses and they all have their own discussions, this would consolidate it. however I bet it ends up in P&R over time anyway if the thread is used often.

Yeah but John Oliver covers more than just politics. He covers many of the major news stories out there. I think you could argue it just doesn't belong in Politics even though he covers that too.

Oliver is fantastic. The Our Lady of Perpetual Exemption stuff had me on the floor.

Even though it's only once a week, it fills the void that Stewart left.

My concern about it being moved is the arguments between us as posters that can ensue over political issues he reports on, not based on the show itself. The daily show didn't usually have heated political arguments spill onto here though so maybe not. We'll see. Worst case, this thread can live for a long time in P&R if it crosses that path.

Currently my favorite or close to my favorite show on television.

I wish they would either have it on more days or at least lengthen it to an hour like Maher's show. It would be cool to always have a guest, similar to what Jon Stewart used to do and have more than one "main" story.

That would be enjoyable, I agree. It works though, I think itll be a weekly show for me now along with Vice and Fear the walking dead. I dont really keep up with anything else full time, just casually.

I like it :) it has gotten much better the last few episodes IMO. I am ok that everyone else doesn't like it as you guys all post getting excited about supergirl and other shows I would never even show a hint of interest in :)

You should add Silicon valley into that mix.

I do love some silicon valley but I just binge the whole season on that show as no one talks to me about it so I dont have to worry about spoilers :)

Last week tonight ill have to keep up with or everything is just old news and not as interesting anymore.

Well you are mistaken -- I've never been and never will be excited about Supergirl. :D

I was just lumping all of the tv thread posters into one entity :)

I dont do a lot of TV watching and am a big fan of horror/survival and post apocalypse stuff so TWD/FTWD is totally my bag of content. I thought FTWD was bad until recently but my thoughts are in the FTWD thread ;)

Wow.

On Last Week Tonight thought, John Oliver made a good choice moving to HBO from anything Comedy Central might have offered IMO. Minimal censorship on HBO, where content gets real. :D

Imagine John Oliver presenting the Oscars/Emmys.

HBO lineup has been awesome the last few years.

Veep
Last Week Tonight
Silicon Valley
Real Time
True Detective

I really miss
Getting On (extremely under rated)
Eastbound and Down ( Kenny Powers)
Bored to Death
Deadwood

I think John Oliver would have done just fine over at Comedy Central. Because even with censorship for example it didn't throw JS off script and often they just bleeped out the "F" word for example. It's interesting now that JS is also going to have a show at HBO.

Dont forget Vice and game of thrones!

(I have never seen game of thrones, at some point we will run out of shows and I will convince my wife that we should try it)

That is unreal to me. You and I appears to have many of the same tastes in shows. Believe me...it's one of the best things on TV. You should be able to find it on Kodi too.

I don't think so--I think he could be funny, but not to the extent he can on HBO. Comedy Central have much more restrictive regulations that HBO doesn't have to follow, and not just with language.

Definitely one of the best shows on TV. I also wish that it was a full hour instead of 30 minutes.

I bet I will love it. The problem is, my wife doesnt like anything suspenceful at all and I cant watch this with my teenage daughter, she is who I watch the walking dead and horror movies with.

So I have to get the wife on board as when I am alone, I usually play video games, not watch TV :)

Her only comment on GoT is that it is "a porno" but she just watched all 5 seasons of girls on HBO and it has just as much porn as GoT so I have a real shot here! Figure Ill jump into it once we finish a few other shows.

Fine with me! I like fantasy and dragons and etc. All fine by me.

GoT is on my watch list. I even have the 1st season on Bluray. I just need to finish a few of the shows we are in the middle of first. Summer time probably.
