Plot Summary: "Layer Cake," a riveting thriller set in the drug underworld of the UK, marks the directorial debut of producer Mathew Vaughn ("Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels," "Snatch").

Sleek, well dressed and polite, our unnamed hero (Daniel Craig) is a consummate professional. Treating cocaine and ecstasy like any other commodity, he has made a fortune for himself by keeping his hands clean and staying under the radar. Having made the decision to retire, his aim is to break free from the world of crime, drugs and violence and live a simple, quiet life with the money he has amassed.

But before this can happen, crime boss Jimmy Price (Kenneth Cranham) wants two last favors from him. First, he must track down the missing, drug addict daughter of powerful criminal Eddie Temple (Michael Gambon). Second, he must negotiate the sale of a huge shipment of ecstacy with The Duke (Jamie Foreman), a loose cannon petty crook playing well out of his league.

What should be routine transaction is anything but and nothing goes according to plan. Instead, duplicity and hidden alliances become the order of the day, in a struggle for power that reaches from the crack dens of London to the highest ranks of British society. Quickly he learns he is part of a machine much greater than he imagined, and getting out won't be quite as easy as getting in.

This was a damn fine movie. I still like Vaughn's two productions, Lock Stock and Snatch better (Lock Stock ROCKS as his best, IMO), but Layer Cake was quite impressive. I could even see how Craig was mentioned as a possible James Bond after this.

Great movie with great twists. Although I saw many of the twists coming, I was pleasantly shocked and surprised with others. The ending was bitchin'. Two thumbs up

I tried to see this yesterday, but it looks like, in all of Phoenix, it is only showing at Tempe Valley Art. What the heck it that?

I can't believe I missed this...saw it at Blockbuster last night, but it was out...can't believe it's from the guys who did Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

I loved those movies...I plan on renting this soon.

I loved Snatch and the movie did great here in the UK! I cannot wait to see it! It is on my list of movies that Blockbuster is supposed to send me and it is prioritized to number 1 but it is never in! OMG....

A very slick movie, but it was hard for me to understand what they were saying sometimes because of their British accents. Daniel Craig should make an excellent James Bond.

Watched this last night. Pretty cool and interesting flick. I had to turn on the subtitles though to totally follow the dialog.
