I just saw an article that analyzed the most and least talkative NFL announcers.

It is interesting that Thom Brennaman and his partner were found to be the third least talkative team. Which, of course, translates into third most pleasant duo to listen to.

'Quite a departure from his successor as the TV voices of the D'backs -- the two who mention their own names and their personal preferences more than the rest put together.

"Thank you, Daron Sutton." "You're welcome, Mark Grace." "Don't mention it, Daron Sutton." "My pleasure, Mark Grace." Ad nausuem.

I, for one, miss Thom Brennaman. Which is why I turn the TV volume to zero and listen to the play-by-play of Greg Schulte (despite his forgetful mind) or Jeff Munn and the color commentary of Tom Candiotti.

For some reason, baseball announcers today feel that they need to fill the time inbetween pitches with constant inane blathering. My announcers are notoriously bad at this and they're horrible at calling games on top of it. I mean, they never shut up. And rarely it's about what's going on on the field. Just some BS about who ate what the night before or what they're eating in the booth etc. Just garbage. This is why I miss the team of Harry Kalas and Richie Ashburn. They were my all time favorites as they let the game do the talking and every once in a while they'd throw in a story or 2 or some history. But, do you remember when NBC played a Dolphins/Jets game with no announcing? That was beautiful.

For my money Mark Grace is funny enough at times that I can bear him. However I cannot listen to Daron Sutton who, whenever he actually finds himself being silent and not blathering, will defer back to bragging about how AMAZING his dad was, yet again...

It is now May and Daron Sutton actually had the balls to say on the air, "I don't care what they think.", referring to the fans when Grace made mention of them.

He doesn't care what the fans think? Sutton's egotism is out of control.

Then he and Grace dissed the sponsor when a guy in a Taco Bell costume walked between the pitcher and catcher while they were warming up.

The guy was wrong, but did it really require seven replays and Sutton and Grace repeating the same thing over and over?

Why would anyone make mocking a sponsor a topic of conversation for fifteen minutes?

How I wish Bob Brenly would get a managerial job, so Sutton and Grace could take their sophomoric act to Wrigley. Everything that happens on the field is about them.

Sutton's "I don't care what they think." makes it clear that he, as a supposed play-by-play announcer, doesn't announce to the fans. He and Grace talk to each other, and do it like a couple of eight years olds.

I enjoy Sutton and Grace. If you need an announcer to make your experience enjoyable, you're watching the wrong sport. Baseball is easy enough to watch & these two are like a couple of dumb buddies. Sure they're not going to fill you with incredible insight, but they sure beat the a-holes who you sit by during a live game. Thom Brennaman is an absolute bore. At least with Darren and Grace you get an occasional uncomfortable silence because you know Gracie can't say what he's really thinking about a member of the crowd or some awkward statement Sutton made.

The problem is that there is so much more dead air that broadcaster have to fill because of all the ridiculous time wasting compared to even just a decade ago. Quit adjusting your gloves and get in the batter's box already...

I like our local broadcast team. Sutton and Grace have made the game bearable even when it wasn't. They have rallied the fans around this group, and have endeared them to the players. This will go a long way with the players, because the fans were in it with them when things were not going so well. Did you not see how Ryan Roberts responded to the guy with the Tatman sign. He had the ushers bring him into the dugout and introduced him to some of his team-mates. Then he signed the Tatman sign for the fan. That happened because of Sutton and Grace who urged the fans all last year, and again this year when things were bad, "We need more signs". The fans have taken these guys to their hearts, and while some may think that it takes away from the game, this broadcast team has been every bit as influential as the Staff of the D-Backs in making this 'family'.

I will take their lively telecast any day over the negative vibes that Thom Brenneman brought to the games. He often emphasized the negative, making it like you were listening to the other team's broadcast team. How many times did he come out with a very negative, ('POPPED IT UP'), without any regard for who the pitcher was, or what kind of pitch was made. He nearly always made it the batter's fault, despite the fact that some pitchers were good enough that a pop-up was about the best you could do.

I like that Sutton and Grace have the confidence to rib each other, AND the players and coaches. They talk down to no one, and they bring a lot of life to the telecast in my opinion. I will take them any day over Thom Brenneman.

I love Sutton and Grace. As it has been said, they at least made games enjoyable when we were an awful club.

I really like Sutton and Grace.

A few games ago they switched announcers from the Florida Marlins and everything was so uptight and boring that inning that I actually had to mute it. I found myself wishing Grace was back.

They work well off each other and really seem to enjoy what they're doing.

Tommy Hutton is 100X the color guy that grace is .... it's not even close

just difficult when they do those blended things as there is zero chemistry and both guys are trying to lead the other in a way where they can provide insight from the other view - it usually just comes off stiff

Who is this Hutton guy you speak of, do you mean E.F. Hutton.? Working 2 jobs I rarely catch a Dback's game, much less another team.
