But the $64 question remains: does Whiz pull the trigger on Bowels or another prospect before the Superbowl so is not to be snatched up by another team?

Just saying but this doesn't really rule anything out. No coach is going to say they're going to leave the team two weeks out from the superbowl.
Sounds like if Whiz goes Bowles, we can look at the secondary being the strength of the defense, and expect better play from everybody playing defense with more focus and attention. Probably won't blitz as much as I like, but I could live with getting the best out of our pickers.
Nothing wrong with Butler, he would be my choice of the two.

I am not so sure that by LaBeau staying as DC, Butler is automatically free to pursue a DC position elsewhere. His title is linebackers coach and DC in waiting. He may not have be able to walk from his contract, or have the teams persmission to do so.

I wonder if that means if he still wants to coach, but the Steelers don't resign him if he'll just retire. I'm sure that won't be the case as long as he commits to another 4+ years, but would the Steelers resign him, and risk losing Butler if he would only sign for 2 years.

That is kind of scarey, Raiduz have a lot to offer, but they have to go against a tougher division.

Problem is, if Dick stays they may lose Butler, they could choose to keep Butler instead of dick, if dick retires in a year and butler is gone they are far worse off than if they keep butler now and let dick go. IMO
