Leicester City vs Man United – Match preview and team news
The final Premier League game before the international break sees Leicester City welcome Man United to the King Power Stadium.
Manuel Ugarte was an unused substitute in midweek with Ruben Amorim opting not to risk the Uruguayan midfielder against Real Sociedad. It is likely he will replace Casemiro, who according to the manager was exhausted by the full-time whistle.
Harry Maguire will be assessed to determine whether he is able to feature against his former club while Patrick Dorgu is serving the final game of his three-match suspension.
United will take a cautious approach to reintroducing Mason Mount into action but the 26-year-old may be on the bench. Fellow midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is set to return after the international break.
Time is not on Leicester’s side as they try to avoid an immediate relegation back into the Championship.
Foxes manager and former Red Devils striker Ruud van Nistelrooy announced he has almost a full squad at his disposal this weekend. The only absentee is Abdul Fatawu, who is recovering from a long-term knee injury.

Form
Leicester: LLLLL
Leicester are enduring a torrid run of form which has seen them lose six games on the spin. Their misery is further compounded by the fact they have only scored once in that period.
Coincidentally, that goal game against United in a 2-1 defeat in the FA Cup. This will be the first time they host United this season having faced them three times already. However, home is anything but comfort for the Foxes at the moment.
After failing to score against Brentford, Leicester set a new Premier League record of falling to score in six successive home matches. If they draw another blank today, that unwanted record will only be extended further.
Manchester United: WDDDW
United’s purple patch of form continued on Thursday as they thrashed Real Sociedad 4-1 at Old Trafford.
The first leg had ended 1-1, but a captain’s performance from Bruno Fernandes helped the Red Devils into the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
A tantalising two-legged tie with Lyon is their reward with the first leg being played in France in April.
Ruben Amorim’s side are technically unbeaten in six games during normal time. Their only recent blemish is their penalty shootout defeat to Fulham in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
Last Meeting
Man United 2-1 Leicester City, FA Cup, 7th February 2025
A controversial winner from Harry Maguire saw Manchester United cruelly dump Leicester City out of the FA Cup.
The two sides met in the fourth round of the prestigious competition, with the hosts looking to defend their crown. But it was the Foxes who found themselves with a lead to protect at halftime.
With three minutes to go in the first half, Wilfred Ndidi’s effort was saved by Andre Onana before bouncing off Bobby Decordova-Reid and crossing the line. The former Fulham attacker reacted swiftly to instinctively head in and break the deadlock.
Valiant defending from Caleb Okoli prevented United from equalising just past the hour mark. Ruben Amorim’s side hadn’t registered a shot on target until Alejandro Garnacho’s attempt took a deflection off Wout Faes. The additional contact helped the ball over Mads Hermansen and agonisingly travelled towards the goal. At the last second Okoli’s desperate lunge guided the ball onto the crossbar and clear of danger.
Leicester’s defensive stability was fleeting and minutes later United found a way through. Rasmus Hojlund’s deft flick was blocked into the path of Joshua Zirkzee who dispatched into the empty net with aplomb.
With 30 seconds remaining of injury time, Maguire broke his former employers’ hearts with the winner. Bruno Fernandes’ deep set-piece was floated towards the imposing defender, who headed into the corner in customary fashion.
Ruud van Nistelrooy was rightfully protesting the legality of the goal as replays suggested the Englishman came from an offside position. But VAR wasn’t there to intervene due to the technology not being implemented until the fifth round. Thus, Leicester were knocked out and United advanced into the last 16 of the competition.
